so this is why curious labs has been MIA lately. well maybe we'll have a better company running the show. seems like curious labs of late has been a little different than i was used to. all this and daz|studio to be out soon. seems like the entire face of ready-made characters is evolving.

And evolution is a good thing! Even dinosaurs can evolve into elegant animals capable of flight (hint). :)

And humans can evolve into elegant creatures who can make atomic bombs, naplam, etc.

and sometimes we can even learn how to spell "napalm" correctly

"At any rate you'd be an improvement over whomever made Judy :P" --Lyrra Lyrra: I don't think Syyd/RDNA would appreciate that remark. ;)

WOW is all I can say about this...
I would like to say I have seen SHade and it is a good program, and I am a Poser 5 user. With the combination of these two companies, I can see great things for Poser.

I won't be buying anything from them until they fix what I've already purchased. All I can think of is here we go again. Lots of sweet words to get us all excited and then they hit your wallet. Make the product I bought from you work the way you said it would, quit adding items until the product is complete, give me an update so the hair doesn't spike though my char's head when I try to use the wind, maybe then I'll get excited. Nobody's asked anybody to buy anything. Maybe this new situation WILL lead to a faster fix for P5. Maybe it will JUSTIFY our P5 purchases. Things could go either way. I choose to be optimistic. This is great news. -jjsemp

Katherine, thanks for the info and good luck to Curious Labs. I really enjoyed working with you and hope having the pleasure of working with you again in the future. About the closing of Egisys: It's very sad to see friends lose their jobs.

judith ( ) posted Fri, 05 December 2003 at 7:24 AM

This is getting better and better! thanks for the update Katherine! Pam, RDNA did the textures maps and some of the morphs for the P5 figures, the figures themselves were done by another company.

is anyone from that other company a good friend of ours???? If not, that Judy is terrible...can we have an SR5 on her?

From what I know, "that other company" was Curious Labs Ireland. I'm not 100% sure about the figures, but many of the other new content geometries in P5 were made by them. See the "About"-screen in Poser for the names. And yes, Sebastian Friling from them is a good friend of mine. About Judy: It takes 3 minutes in the Face Room to change her look, and 5 seconds to save the changed look to the library.

Dave-So ( ) posted Fri, 05 December 2003 at 8:17 AM

She scared me so bad on day 1...I haven't opened her again...:) Maybe I'll give her a try some day in the face room.

Exotica ( ) posted Fri, 05 December 2003 at 12:25 PM

If I thought it had a chance in hell of succeding, I'd make a character for her (Judy) to completely change her look...but I've heard so much negative toward her that it's probably not worth my time.

stewer ( ) posted Fri, 05 December 2003 at 1:28 PM

I think the negative comments would stop once you release a kick-ass character for Judy.

Exotica ( ) posted Fri, 05 December 2003 at 2:04 PM

Something to add to my "to do" list. :) I really should do something for her. I'm working on a few projects right now. Perhaps after I wrap them up I can check her out. :)

Lucy_Fur ( ) posted Fri, 05 December 2003 at 2:45 PM

Now THIS is what a proper Asian eyemorph (epicanthic fold)and head morph should look like. I've always been disappointed with the 'look' the Poser asian morphs have had in terms of the reality. Reality in Poser?? Puhlease!! ;) But really, I'm sure a lot of it may have had to do w/the limitation of the mesh, but I have my wants and wishes - and that's one of them. :) Sorry to hear about the split from Egysis, but I hope for all companies involved that they may continue to prosper from this decision. And that we may reap the benefits of such.

About a week and a half ago I got an email from one of Judy's designers (a well-known commercial Poser content provider who I'll leave anonymous) in response to the critiques I've left about her atrocious facial proportions. The designer said that his/her work on Judy was sent by CL to beta testers who sent back comments. Instead of returning it to the designer, it was sent to another well-known Poser content provider for further morphing. CL's then-management was of the opinion that Poser users don't WANT completely realistic figures because it would discourage us from creating morphs, textures, etc. Uh, if I'm supposedly trying to position my product to professionals, aren't I shooting myself in the foot to make my customers compensate for my product's shortcomings? Don't blame the initial designer for not signing their name to work below their own standards. As far as the future of the product is concerned, I'm grateful CL has a new partner and a new lease on life. I wish CL the best.

All I want is a Poser (or whatever other program comes out) that CAN use our graphics cards chipset if we want to do renders and show the workspace. Would be a much needed boon to the graphical abilities of this program and provide much more fun, I think.

Those who don't have the hardware can still run their Poser like we all always have. Those who do have the hardware... well... welcome to the 21st Century!

Would be nice, huh... well, one can dream. Shade & Poser sittin' in a tree... maybe we'll get a much needed graphical upgrade out of the deal.

sexxx ( ) posted Sat, 06 December 2003 at 5:11 PM

I concur on that

Why a 3d program wouldn't have hardware acceleration is beyond believe LoL

It just does not make any sense at all poser 3 and 4 didn't have ok but with poser 5 I expected it!

this would enhance the usage of it besides allowing slower systems to run it because it would take a hell of a load off the cpu/ram lets face it who doesn't have a 3d accelerated graphic card nowadays ?

hauksdottir ( ) posted Sun, 07 December 2003 at 2:06 AM

Thank you for the update. We do need to know from you guys what is up, what is expected, what is intended. Rumors fly too quickly and can catch like wildfire if the atmosphere is brittle enough. Those of us who have used the program for years hope for the best... that we'll continue to have a program called Poser and a vibrant community of fellow users. Good luck with the transition! From the president of e frontier, Inc. ------------------------------------------------ I am Ando Kenichi of the e-frontier, Inc. representative director. I would like to announced that we made the acquisition of the "Poser" software business and the company of Curious Labs will be a subsidiary of e-frontier, Inc. The main software of "Poser" from Curious Labs has been doing a research and development for more than 15 years. The company will continue the development and evolve this great tool for many 3D graphics creators in all over the world. At the same time in this business acquisition, I believe we could also introduce our 3D graphics software tool - "Shade" to be useful for all of you creators. For both 3DCG software "Poser" and "Shade", we would like to study more about the technical synergy for now and the future. Please wait for our next generation of development policy for Poser. But I promise and I am sure that it will be a positive and benefit for all of you creators. For the current package of Poser series that being sold all over the world, e-frontier and Curious Labs will have our responsibility to be continue the development and support for all of our users. Katherine - that is good news. Congratulations. I confess, I had largely given y'all up for dead. - - - - - Exotica - I encourage you to make a new character for Judy. She's got potential. And don't be afraid to add new body morphs - when WardrobeValet is released (March 2004), Judy will instantly have a potential wardrobe of thousands of clothes currently worn by Posette and Vicki - and new body morphs will be automatically supported (though it wouldn't hurt to e-mail me when your new character is ready - I'd gladly check that my one-touch cloth-fitting utility works well with your character, and include her in demos. (See attached link for early pics of WardrobeValet) -- ToolmakerSteve@ShawStudio.com P.S. Is this too much an "advertisement" for what I'm up to? If anyone feels that way, then I deeply apologize. I am committed to enlarging this community, and making sure it is fun and rewarding for everyone; but since I'm trying to make a living doing so, it is easy to lose track of where that "being commercial" line is...
