I was reading the newspaper the other day, in particular an article by a woman about how fast children grow up these days, and especially about the lyrics of songs and how blatently sexual a lot of them were. (Actually, it was a load of tosh, coz I can think of loads of 'old' songs from the 60's in which the lyrics are blatently sexual too) One of the things it ended up moralising about was the net and letting children loose on it. Now, my view with my kids is straight forward and honest. I swear in front of them casually, but they know that they're not to use language like that themselves in front of anyone who might not want to hear it. (Notice I don't tell them not to swear - that's like telling a snowman not to melt in spring. They'll do it, I know they will and they know I know they will. Eventually) When it comes to sex, well, it hasn't been asked yet, but I'm waiting for it, and have my answers mapped out for that one too. (Death doesn't matter, we covered that agggges ago, and we conclusively decided not to die, it was too expensive.) Anyways, the point I'm making is that I don't see any problem with any parent letting a 10 year old in here - just as long as they are able to handle some of the questions that may come up in relation to the comments that get posted (and I'm thinking now of some of the subjects covered in the last 3 years.....sex, prostitution, cross-dressing, gays, police attitude, food ingredients, ethnic tastes and differences, downright bitchiness etc etc). When you consider, the conversations here aren't massively different to what you'd hear in a bar sometimes - and most parents keep kids out of there, don't they? lol - just my food for thought and hopefully the start of some interesting comments.....
