Subject: Question in regards to ERC

I have an idea for something, but it all revolves around being able to alter the RATE at which one dial controls another from within Poser. I would need to be able to alter this value with some sort of ease, like with a POSE or Python.
Preferably with a pose, since Python intimidates me.
Can ERC be injected?
Any ideas?

I haven't tried it but I suspect you can change the control ratio with a pose. You seem to be able to change everything else in the dial. In fact, as long as you stick to existing dials you should be able to inject as much ERC as you want with poses. Hmmm....interesting idea. You could probably do it with python too.

Now that I know a little more about injection, I think I'm gonna give this idea a go. It helps to hear someone say it "should" be possible. Thanks

The only thing I feel uneasy about is whether you can change the control ratio without changing the dial setting at the same time. I'll see if I can find some time to try it out later.

The dial setting changing may not be an issue. One dial is easy enough to remember. Now I don't want to go to work.

The morph will change instantly, reflecting the new calculated value. If that doesn't matter, no big deal. Otherwise, you can control the morph with multiple dials and probably accomplish what you need. For instance, if you wanted the morph to start applying at twice the rate at some point during the bend, you would duplicate the master channel (give it a new name), but set it so it didn't kick in until the rotation was at the value you wanted the increased rate to occur. Obviously, the two channels would need different min values. The advantage with this method is that no pose file is needed. The effect when the second master channel kicked in would be constant.

The above technique is also useful for reversing a morph after the rotation reaches a certain point -- the rotation continues, but the morph starts unmorphing.

I probably invented a word in there somewhere. Oh well...

I think I need to research ERC a little more. Thanks guys

iamonk, Migal's "duplicate dials" gives me another idea, which might be useful to you: Make two ERC dials, which are identical except for name. Start both at zero. Dial #1 has first rate, Dial #2 has second rate (or could have rate changed later using a pose). Begin by using dial #1. At the time you want to use a different rate, start using dial #2 instead. The effects of these dials will add together. There won't be any sudden "jump" in the morphed position, because you won't have tampered with #1's rate. Maybe simpler for your first foray into ERC, as don't have to grasp what Migal was saying, about "kick in" and "different min values". (Not at all knocking Migal's solution - it is a brilliant way to get a hard-wired effect, without need for pose file, or telling user to switch to a different dial.) As you can imagine, you could have as many of these duplicates as you want, giving a way to select among many different rates.
