Subject: P-Booost, Poser Product Manager, etc. Which one?

MaterialForge ( ) posted Wed, 10 December 2003 at 7:09 AM · edited Sat, 30 November 2024 at 9:39 AM

I'm in the market for one of these guys for P4. Recommendations? Does anyone have both? If so, which one do you like better? Stability? General opinions? Thanks!!! --Donnie

Don't know too much about PPM but P-Booost is great. It does a lot more than just library management. You can edit most aspects of files with it. Also, if you're using P4, it gives you the ability to divide your stuff up into far more folders than Poser would ever allow and have hierarchical access to them so getting to your stuff is relatively quick and easy.

couldn't tell you what PPM is like either, been using PBooost since v1.3(over a year) & wouldn't be without it now. I had a few problems with the folders locking at first but coupled PBooost with CorrectReference & no problems since. I hope someone who's got PPM comes along soon or this is gonna be so one sided ;)

Thanks guys - Rob, what is CorrectReference? (been under a rock for a few months...) ;)

Poser has a funny habit when searching for a texture of leaving the folder open so that PBooost can't move the folder. CorrectReference is a freebie written by Hogwarden that goes through your runtime & corrects all the references to textures from things like: poserruntimetexturestexture.jpg to: :runtime:textures:folder:texture.jpg this has several effects, it speeds poser up, stops it grabbing the wrong texture if you have more than one with the same name (poser likes to grab the first one it finds too). It also means PBooost can switch banks while poser is running (if the folders get locked you have to shut poser down to move the folders then start it up again)

I can highly recommend PBooost too - its very useful even if you have P5 and multiple runtimes.

I have a problem with Pboost 1.4. It locks the folder and not allow me to change the folder even poser propack is closed. I have no problem on version 1.3. Whole last week , I keep running the correct reference and change all the texture files, but it still keep the folder lock.. Any idea? please let me know. I'm using window XP pro with service pack 1. Thanks in advance.

I'll try that one again :) (deleted last post it didn't make sense even to me) AntiVirus software that performs background scans has been known to lock folders too, I know Mcaffee scans folders sometimes if you make changes & I've had times when I've had to reboot just so I can delete an empty folder thanks to that. The way I've got round that one is to switch everything off, internet connection, antivirus the lot & just run poser on it's own. I'm on XP Home with service pack1.

Great, this is excellent info. Thanks everyone! Rob, it's good to BE back!! :)

Hummmm, same OS, Pboost 1.4, no problems but I run Norton. Once I run Correct Reference no probs. Never thought about the AntiVirus software as being a potential problem with this.
