Deep trances.. when you set up your animation, make sure to check these things before going beyond frame 1. If you want your figure to move, but not the chair.. make sure that in frame 1.. you only have the figures body selected or body part selected that you intend to have moving. You shouldnt at this point have anything else selected. I.E. camera, chair..etc. Add your frames, and on the last frame of the sequence move ( the part of the character you want moving ) select the body part.. Move it to the postion you want it to be in at the end of that particular sequence.. then select the camera ( if you intend for it to move ) and do the same. You'll continue in this manner until everything you want moving is moving. And the chair will stay where you placed it in frame 1. I hope I didn't confuse you with this.. Good luck on your animation.
