The newer model Nikon is coming out with is the D70, actually a slight step BELOW the D100. Nikon needed a camera that would compete with Canon's "under a grand" camera - so in essense, then took the D100 and cheezed down the body and fetures. From what I've read, it has slower write times, more shutter lag, less rugged body, etc. In this case, the "older" body might be a good thing.
