During the English civil war, Birmingham was strongly Paliramentarian. The citizens were aware of a small group of loyalists in their midst. Some of these were exiled to nearby Royalist Coventry. But this isn't a great explanation, since by being sent to coventry, they were esentially set free. Coventry can't have been THAT bad. Another explanation was that there was a garrison in Coventry, but the young girls of the village weren't allowed to talk to the soldiers. So the army boys hated being sent there. Is anyone actually reading this? Thought not. I'll shut up now.
