In relation to this, there's a fairly new exploit for IE that can fake a URL in the address bar and in the status bar if you hover the mouse over a link - info and fix at the included link. Usually, you can tell a spoofed site by the address shown in the address bar, but not if they're using this trick. One precaution to take also is to always start with a new browser window and type in the address of a secure site, rather than clicking on web page links.
