Subject: Organization From hell

I am and always have had a heck of a time Organizing my Poser stuff into poser. It seems that some if not all Poser downloads get thrown all over the place and never in the right spot in the runtime folders. I have bought and downloaded Pbooster's programs and I still have Problems. Is it necessary to have the different banks and folders or can I just place Everything into one big folder and look in ther when needed for everything. Also another question it seems that when I apply a texture from a bank it says that it can't find the .bum file. I have found a way around this by making a copy of the .jpg and renameing it a .bum but my lord to have to do that every time is an awful waste of time. All I want to be able to do is point and click and spend most of my time Drawing. Is ther an easier way of resolving both of these intricate and time consuming problems.

First of all, get Correct Reference (from free stuff, by Hogwarden) and use that on your Runtime. That ought to fix the .bum problem. I guess you're using P5?

A couple of things to help you organize your stuff: When you open a zip, examine the path to see if the first referenced folder is Runtime. If so, the item should install correctly if you check the "Use Folder Names" option in Zip. However, to make it easier to keep track of things, make sure you switch the correct banks as you install. It's a good idea to not have Poser running as you install the stuff. If you organize your PBooost libraries like most people, I would guess they go something like this: Figures: Victoria 2 Characters Victoria 3 Characters Victoria 2 Clothes Victoria 3 Clothes Pose: Victoria 2 Poses Victoria 3 Poses Stephanie Poses Clothes MATS Hair MATS ... and so forth. If you're installing hair, make sure you switch to the correct banks first. Sometimes hair installs to the Figures library, so create another bank called "Hair" just for that purpose. As for items which don't have Runtime referenced as the first folder in their path, there's a dead easy way to get them to install. A few of the Japanese free sites often start the installation path with the creator's name, like so: Yoshis Hair/Runtime/Libraries/Hair/SillyHair So, when you unzip, you'll have a folder somewhere called Yoshis Hair, rather than the stuff dropping into the correct places. If you unzip these kinds of files to your root directory C:/ or wherever you have Poser installed, you'll be able to find the unzipped folder easily. Don't try to install the stuff manually from there; simply go into the folder and find the one called Runtime. Zip that one. Zip will ask if you wish to add it to "Runtime.zip" answer Yes, and you'll see the zipped folder appear. Now, unzip that one, using the "Use Folder Names" option, and it will all drop into the correct places.

Hmm what I usually do in cases like the "Yoshis HairRuntime... case is that I extract it to my desktop, then I go into the Yoshis Hair folder, and drag-and-drop the Runtime folder with all it's contents into my h:Programmermeta creationsPoser 4 folder :o) (oh and I have a shortcut on my desktop that takes me to my Poser 4 folder btw)

That would work, too. My preference is to not use my desktop for anything other than program shortcuts.

I did correct refernce and it got a number of references corrected over 1200 but it still had over 800 unfound anysuggestions or should I just re-install those items and make sure manually they go to the right folders. I wish someone like poser or daz would reinvent this system it is so hap-hazard.

somewhere I saw an mage of where everything should go it was wonderful. I since then have lost it in the muck of all my stuff, anybody have any idea of what that image is and where I can find it.

Geep posted that image a day or 2 ago, it should be possible to find it. He made the chart too and yes, it's great! SamTherapy, I also TRY to use my desktop for shortcuts and nothing more, but I also use it as a sorta temp folder, for downloads not yet installed and such. That way I know what I have installed and whatnot :o)
