.dds format pictures are used mostly by video game companies, I know the makers of "Unreal Tournament" use this format. Depending on what you are using to view/convert the .dds picture, you may see multiple size textures in the same document, if you do, you may have to crop the texture to just the 1024x1024 section before you convert.
