Subject: Switch (back) from PC to Mac OSX

Has someone real experience with migration from PC environment to Mac OSX? When I talk about migration, I really talk about migrating a large collection of pose, figure, lights, etc. maintained in a P5 Runtime Library (about 1.5GB). Is migration just a matter of copying the hierarchy of files from the PC to the Mac of does Mac files require some post processing? In the latter case, which type of processing is required? I tested most of the software I want to migrate (Carrara, Photoshop, etc.) but CL is the only one to not offer a version for testing before buying. Many thanks for sharing your experience.

See if you can catch Penguinisto. He posts here and more often at Poserpros. He uses PCs etc and recently got a Mac cube. Though I think he's using it for Linux now. :D You'll need to run PC files through MacConvertor- http://www.soft-rabbit.com/

I think Poser 5 in OSX reads PC files fine with no conversion. It may be as simple as copying your current runtime onto the Mac. Post this in the Mac Forum, there are a lot of people who can help you there...

If all the library stuff has .png's instead of .rsr's as preview files it will work fine to copy the lot to your mac. If you have .rsr's in the library folders you'll get the shrugging guy instead of a preview. A problem is that you can't drop your imported runtime on top of the one from the installation, because then you'll overwrite what's in there already. Instead you'll have to open each of of subcategories (geometries, characters, lights etc etc) and then move the stuff in place.

If you just drop the folders onto MacConverter, it will automatically put the .rsr's into the file itself, and then deletes them as they're no longer needed. Woo hoo! So don't panic when all the .rsrs disappear. Good luck, and welcome! : )
