I'm confused because ...

1. I did not submit a "product review" for ANYTHING!

2. How would one do a product review of "Burn CD"?
   ..... it is NOT a product, per se. (is it?)

3. I guess all I can say is ...

Debbie M. is looking into seeing if it is a programming blip.

Apparently there ws a glitch in the server, and a page containing e-mail addresses leaked out. Check the full headers and see if it was sent from some other server. Compare the IP address in the Burn-CD message to the IP address in a valid Renderosity e-mail.

So THAT'S where all this #*^$@#%^ junk mail comes from. Gonna hafta change ma addy ......... again. Dang it! ;=[

This is probably a "probe" email. Meaning, spammers send out the emails automatically to a stolen list, and then see who bites so to speak. If the emails bounce, they are removed from further mailings, but if you respond in any way, even with a "hey, what's this?", then they know it's an actively checked email address that they can spam with their crap.

If that's a "probe" e-mail, it's an awfully topical one. If it's a spammer, it sounds like one who's a Rosity reg.

Yes, that's my feeling too, Randym. It might be some malicious hacker who was a member and who is using the list. But if the IP address of the messages appears to be from Renderosity, that could be some other issue, like a malfunctioning, unsecured ebot or whatever. Maybe it's an auto-generated message, either falsely or remotely triggered. There was some guy who was recently testing (without permission) the various security problems in the forms here, who would be a good guy to talk to about it.

doubt its relevent, but I got a spam mail form a company called "only-best-things.com" selling cheap laptops.. the thing is my mail is very clean generally, and I have the luxury of infinite addresses .. it was sent to me via my renderosity address, since this address has only ever been used in my renderosity profile (which shouldnt be available to anyone should it) its a bit worrying .. and more worrying is: there was a clickable link at the bottom of the page that you should click if you dont want anymore emails from them, I think I was probed successfully :( I just goto the site : http://only-best-things.com/ .. and get this message .. "Whats up, Neo ? :-) " I think Ive definately been had ;(

I didn't get the email. I guess this means that the product that I did not submit did indeed fall within the guidelines of the product reviews. whew That's a relief. I did however receive a notification one time that a message I had not sent to someone here was received. I had been waiting to find that out, so a relief there as well.

I got the very same email geep.....just a different product. I sent an IM to the store and was told it was an "old duplicate review and the email was generic". I don't recall ever making a review either.....at least not of the product that was mentioned in the email they sent me. Not sure what's going on with their system, but the email is from R'osity.

This is the ONLY place I use for my email... You wouldn't believe the amount of spam coming ever since. And why shouldn't it... I mean, you get spyware and sex links right from some Freestuff here...

Does not sound like spam. To verify an email adress they usually send some HTML-Code, which loads a Gif-File from their server. If the file is loaded, they know that the email addy is good - even if you do not reply. Was there some kind of picture in the email? Or a reference in the email-code, if it was html?

sorry bantha - that is not always the way they verify an address- clicking a "remove me" link is also a manner to verify. Besides they may niot care about verification at all, many don't. But it certainly explains the massive influx of spam I suddenly began receiving this week. Most of it non-english and to the addy I use here - which I recently changed in my profile and that surprisingly never received spam before.

I wanted toa dd that of the tons of spam I suddenly have in my box - none of it contained an image file ;-)

Sorry to have to say this, but it's probably time to quit using those spam-dump e-mail addresses and get some new ones. AFAIK they fixed the problem, so the new e-mail addresses will be safe.

The spam mail thing happened to me too recently. My old email has been getting bombarded with jusnk for the past couple of weeks with spam that I've never seen before and lots of it. Since I started using my new address I don't check the old one as often and when I did last week, after about a week of absence, they were on the point of closing my account 'cos I had nearly 800 spam mails in it. Also my new account has started getting spam and the only place, outside of family and friends, who knows my new address is here. Catlin

Unfortunately if you have an account with a major provider you may get caught anyway - the slime just squirt it out to randomly generated addresses and keep the ones that don't bounce.

It's a good idea to turn off html in you inbox 'cos some of these spam mails relly on that to see if you have a valid address. I don't know how it works but yahoo suggest turning it off and you are able to turn it on individually if you do want to see it, ie. to look at the pretty pictures in the R'osity newsletter. 8) Catlin
