I also find it hard to believe, with life being as tenacious as it is here on earth, that it doesn't exist elsewhere. The chances of us being alone even in our galaxy are astronomical. Life in one form or another exists virtually everywhere on this planet. And I too have a suspicion about all those mars probes going mysteriously silent.
