Dr. geep, me and a bunch of other people have been trying to figure out the type of lighting used by Twiztidkidd's at the galleries, but I haven't seen any successful results so far... do you think you could figure out what kind of lighting is he using? (see link - nudity warning)

sandmarine ( ) posted Mon, 26 January 2004 at 12:18 AM

just one basic question: my Poser 4 PP Sr3 won't let me increase the map size for the light more than 1024... but in your previous tutorial you said it could be increased to 4096... am i missing something?

geep ( ) posted Mon, 26 January 2004 at 12:24 AM

Hi sandmarine, Yes, ... here is what you are missing. Double-click on the "Map Size" dial to ... Open the "Edit Parameter Dial" window. Now, increase the "Max Limit:" to whatever you want. Ok? cheers, dr geep ;=]

Thanks for the RP DrG =) Sand: Perhaps Renderupgrade by ShadeMaster, here in freestuff...also check out Global Illumination, same maker. Both for Poser 3,4,5

geep ( ) posted Mon, 26 January 2004 at 12:46 AM

Hi Ben, You're welcome and ... Thank you for "watching." ;=] re: Global Illumination Sometimes ... more is less. That is, a small number of lights is much easier to control that using 15 or 20 lights. Just a thought. cheers, dr geep ;=]

thanks dr. geep, i hadn't seen that you had replied this to me already... wow, first time I know you can actually double click on the dials!!! talk about being in the dark for so long... thanks so much for the great tutorial, i really learnt a lot today! and Ben, maybe you're right that twiztidkidd may be using some of those lighting sets, but I guess I'll go for the doc's approach, where less lights are better to control.

geep ( ) posted Mon, 26 January 2004 at 1:05 AM

Hi sand, Start with ONE MAIN LIGHT. Then add more lights (one at a time) to "fill" the dark areas, or to enhance a particular feature. Poser lighting is not a "science," it is really an art all by itself. Do lots of experimentation to develop your own style. Remember, what looks good to you may not look good to someone else. So what, who cares, no? Have fun rendering, and thanks for the inquiry. cheers, dr geep ;=]

Thanks for the repost Doc. May be you could make a sequel about the different ways of using lights to sculpt the subject ? And also on complex lightings used in Poser to fake an omnidirectional light ?

Strixowl ( ) posted Mon, 26 January 2004 at 12:22 PM

sandmarine :-) Just a guess, but the lights in the pic you linked above look like they might be PoorMan's HDRI Lights free at RDNA

WOW! Thank you so much for these light tutorials. You have no idea how many hours/days I have spent playing with Poser Spot lights trying to get animated effects like rooms and corridors lit by flickering touches. Ive been trying to achieve the effect with the minimum number of lights so it doesnt slow the rendering down to much.
