Ok. I used Windows uninstall to get rid of my P4PP, then deleted the poser directory just to make sure everything was gone. Then I reinstalled Poser 4 - no extras. Not even the Pro Pack. And when I run it, the problem is still there. The window looks grey and empty, but when I move the mouse over it I can see the outlines of the poser-guy's body. I guess this means the problem isn't in the poser directory anywhere, but somewhere else in my PC. If anyone can give me the slightest clue how to fix this, I'd be really grateful. I'm depressed!
