Hi guy, I'm doing a logo for a friend, he is a swimmer (and hopefully will go to the Olympic Games this year) his nickname is Dino. The logo will go on his bathing cap, on his bag and on his t-shirts (he he, sounds like fanatic, I know...) So this week-end I came out with this logo, is not yet finished, minor retouches to go... There are 3 versions: What do you don't like in it? In case you like it, which one do you prefer? thanks vasquez

I like the first one cause it's simple, but I want to see the "D" a little smaller and have the guy half-in and half-out of the D, so it won;t be as flat. I don;t quite like how the tail follows the curce of the letter exactly. But hey, i do like it overall :)

The middle one has the blue circle which I like because it could represent the water. Maybe there would be some way of making it more obvious that this is about swimming, because if you hadn't told me I wouldn't have known. Maybe a stylized waterline (you know, pointy stylized waves) at the top of the blue circle would do the job. I'm very impressed with your drawing skills, Vasquez!

This is not my "second childhood". I'm not finished with the first one yet.

I like the middle one best, because of the blue circle as Tjohn said, representing the water. I think its very good!

I like the center one also. I like the blue sphere and the ink pen lines help to define and stylize the outline of the figure. The fact that Dinos bathing cap is sticking out pass the confines of the sphere adds to the image. Nice work!

Definitely the middle one!

RodsArt ( ) posted Mon, 26 January 2004 at 7:18 AM

The middle one seems like it would stand out better on any background...hat,bag,shirt. Nice work.

I like the one in the middle too.. but the left one is best suited for a logo. Is it vector based (drawn in Illustrator or alike)?

vasquez ( ) posted Mon, 26 January 2004 at 7:31 AM

yes it is made with illustrator.

nuski ( ) posted Mon, 26 January 2004 at 7:49 AM

Another illustrator user!!! I salute you! : )

I like the middle one best. Remember this is going to be seen from a distance. The middle one stands out best from across the room.

corys311 ( ) posted Mon, 26 January 2004 at 10:24 AM

I think everyone is going with the middle one! I'm there too, good work bud!

corys311 ( ) posted Mon, 26 January 2004 at 10:25 AM

Oh, I think you should work on the mouth/teeth a little, the jawline and whatnot looks good, more personified... But the teeth look off, give him some pointy ones in the grill there!

rickymaveety ( ) posted Mon, 26 January 2004 at 10:49 AM

I think stylized waves in the blue would be nice, and also, what about making his tail loop inside the D at the end? That would incoporate the D a little more without having your entire character be inside/outside the D.

Could be worse, could be raining.

rickymaveety ( ) posted Mon, 26 January 2004 at 10:51 AM

Oh, and also .... he looks a little bit buck-toothed. Unless he's like that in real life (and it's his trademark ... like Leno's jaw) .... I'd make his two front teeth a little bit smaller.

Could be worse, could be raining.

ShawnDriscoll ( ) posted Mon, 26 January 2004 at 11:26 AM

What color is the cap?

vasquez ( ) posted Mon, 26 January 2004 at 11:43 AM

The cap is silver... HEY GUYS!! thanks alot for the tips.... middle one, yes I think is the best too.... regarding his face (mouth in particular) it is quite similar to real Dino, so I'll keep it so... nuski, I've started with Illustrator 2 months ago (we have it at work and I've played with it a bit for a poster presentation), it's quite simple and cool to use. I'll evaluate every advice.. and keep you updated! thanks again!! vasquez

Does your buddy have buck teeth?dork.gif The buck teeth look wierd on your lizard dude.

Zhann ( ) posted Mon, 26 January 2004 at 5:07 PM

I like number two, it's more integrated, good composition, and color contrast. The drop shadow and the fadeout on the upper left with the blue provides depth. Teeth are okay for the dino theme. I think #2 is your logo....:)

I am going to have to say that #2 would be my choice as well. The blue really does associate the logo with water, swimming, etc. Nice work guy. 8)

The middle one looks better to me. :-) Good luck and best wishes with the logo, Helen/Ardiva

My vote is for number 2 as well - but something's not right about the mouth (unless it's a caricature of the guy?).

Vasquez wrote: "I'm doing a logo for a friend, he is a swimmer (and hopefully will go to the Olympic Games this year) his nickname is Dino." and "...regarding his face (mouth in particular) it is quite similar to real Dino, so I'll keep it so..." So it's a caricature of Vasquez's friend Dino, OK? Sheesh... And speaking as someone who has them, what's your problem with "buck teeth" anyway, people? It's an overbite, not a social disease. Not everyone's parents (mine for example) can afford braces for their children. With tongue solidly in cheek (with my teeth, there's no room to put my tongue anywhere else), John :^D

tjohn.... I'm speechless, I didn't know I could offend a complete social class with my logo! No! moreover I've offended 2 social classes: the swimmer, is not nice for a swimmer to be classified with "buck teeth" people and is also not nice for buck teeth people to be classified with swimmers. now I m going outside to apologize with every buck teeth person I will meet. ;^P
