"This thread moved to xxx forum because of xxx reason.
Then include a link to the thread in the new forum."

You are quite right of course, and that has always been my practice, as the original poster does tend to check the replies to their own thread...I usually do this immediately after the thread is moved...no new url link is needed as all subsequent ebot references to that thread will direct anyone to the thread in it's new home!
