Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 29 7:57 am)
Question: In the past, I've loaded a number of custom light sets created by folks to see what they look like. Sometimes, I'll create a bunch of different spot lights just to see what color Poser will pick. The results can be interesting. However, when you delete those lights, the shadow cam remains. Can a shadow cam be deleted?
ย Don't sweat the petty things, and don't pet the sweaty things! ย ; )
Hi Elfwine, Answer: The shadow cam is deleted when the corresponding light is deleted. If you have loaded a number a light sets, the shadow cam numbers may not always correspond directly with the light numbers. So, you might delete a light and the shadow cam may appear to remain. You can use the Hierarchy Editor to see the shadow lights, also. Just enable (check) both "lights" and "cameras." The shadow cams will be parented to the corresponding light. cheers, dr geep ;=]

Heh heh this is going to date me. "Who knows what evil, lurks in the hearts of men..." "Dr Geep knows, wuahhhhhh..." "Ok, yes sir, I understand. Ah sorry." (Goes and sits in the corner at the back of the class.) "Ah you mean I've got to wear this pointy thing also?" (Embarrassed, puts on the dunce cap for disrupting the class.) Bookmarked! -jay ps. Those of you too young. This was an intro to "the Shadow", and old and very popular radio show. And yeah, I'm too young for it also but I've heard tapes of it back when I was trying to decide a photojournalism major or Radio/TV/Film. sorry, couldn't resist.
LOL @ Jay7347
Tapes?
( I used to listen to it live on a 5 tube superhet. ) <----- but don't tell anyone. ;=]
You may come out of the corner now ...
... and please give back my "thinking cap."
Thank you.

Hi ford3auss, re: " ... do you update the page with your new tute's?" Um, that's not my website so I do not have any control over any updates which are done. Crescent has graciously agreed to host the tuts for me. Any inquiries about the site update should be directed to Crescent. cheers, dr geep ;=]

Thanks beryld, You are correct ... We are starting with spotlights because when you create a new light, that is what you get. We will be covering the shadow cam for the Infinite light, also. cheers, dr geep ;=]

Hi Riddokun,
Q.
" ... If you check/uncheck the boxs after creating the spot, does the shadowcam dissapear too or not ?"
A.
If you UNcheck the box "Casts shadow" ... you do NOT delete the shadow cam ... it is just not used when a render is produced.
The shadow cam is still there so if you CHECK the "Casts shadow" box, then the shadow cam is used for the next render providing that you, also, have "Cast shadows" checked in the ...
[menu] "Render" ---> "Render Options..."

Anyone know what "hither" is? [right above "scale"]
Before they made me they broke the mold!
http://home.roadrunner.com/~kflach/
"Hither" means HERE.
Like Hither and Thither = Here and there.
You can make everything in the studio invisible at a variable distance from the camera lens.
This allows you to "peel away" walls or other objects and see exactly where objects are located WITHOUT moving the camera.
Hither does NOT affect the render, only the non-rendered view.

This is all very well, but how exactly do I SAVE lights and their respective Shadow Cams to the library? When saving, there is no listing of Shadow Cams in the Hierarchy Editor to check.
I've just encountered a bug in Poser where created light sets refuse to render shadows when loaded. Even when the lights are set to cast shadows and have Shadow Cams; in the library they do not.
