Subject: Introducing - the new Cubed BABIES!

ChrisD ( ) posted Tue, 03 February 2004 at 2:42 PM

Yes there is! Ours is a little different than most. We have the inner mouth areas on the body map in order to free up room for the head. BTW, the P5 version includes an abundance of maps - Diffuse colour (the usual) specularity map, transparency map, Bump/displacement map, reflection map, ambient map and ambient occlusion map. These work with shader nodes to create the effects that you see in the renders above - like the sheen on the skin of the forehead and the glossiness of the lips.

Ok Chris! That's what I was hoping to hear :) I'm on my work computer right now, but you tell that web guy to keep that store up and running and I will grab them tonight as soon as I get home from my City Council meeting! By then pokeydots will have posted a "cuter than hell" image to motivate all of us!!! :)

sixus1 ( ) posted Tue, 03 February 2004 at 4:29 PM

Will someone do a 'Cubed Baby on Bed of Lettuce w/ Cream Sauce' for image for me ? :) Actually, they look much more like human children than the those 'other' babies. Rebekah Garner Sixus1 Media

ChrisD ( ) posted Tue, 03 February 2004 at 5:04 PM

Hmmm.. sounds very "Anne Geddes" to me. Hey! That might not be a bad idea for clothing packs! Cute Anne Geddes style costumes! Er... maybe later....

sandoppe ( ) posted Tue, 03 February 2004 at 5:08 PM

Rebekah: Depending on my mood after that City Council meeting tonight, I might be up for a "babies ala cream sauce" image :) Run out of food for the Minotaur over there? LOL! If you guys ever get that "baby grey" ready, what a great companion he would be for this cute little human!! A whole new "Close Encounter" movie in the works! :)

My comment referring to non-daz figures being substandard was in relation to 'human' characters. In terms of beasties, monsters, robots and all things weird I am the first to admit that some are excellant (Sixus1 being obvious, but also BeyondBent is top notch). Just to clarify. Best wishes Jody

Kayjay your baby is adorable! And sandoppe, I used the displacement is poser, I just followed the thread that Cath (Mec4D) posted about using it :) Now run and buy those babies ;o)

I've got to say Sandoppe, I'm hoping for Anton's male figure, Mike 3 just hasn't done it for me, I've used him like once or twice in a scene, he looks, well, very girlish :-) Thanks for the info on that one, I'll keep my eye peeled for that one. Best wishes Jody

I'm also really looking forward to Maximus. As far as the cubed babies, I would probably be more tempted to buy if they weren't it the same package. Since the babies have been created by the same artists as the makers of Don and Judy, does this mean that Dylan and Jenny will work in the faceroom?

Turtle ( ) posted Tue, 03 February 2004 at 7:27 PM

What type of lighting are you all using on the babys. Everything I tried makes there eyes to white, or washed out. ????? Using poser pro.

Love is Grandchildren.

sandoppe ( ) posted Tue, 03 February 2004 at 10:36 PM

Finally got to the right computer, purchased and downloaded the babies :) Now I get to play a bit before the lights have to go out. Just one question Chris: I notice you charge sales tax? Is that required in Ireland (I think that's where you said you were)? It's not a requirement in most states in the US unless something happened in the last few days I haven't heard about yet!! :) Anyway.....that jacks the price up a bit, although not significantly. Now....on to play.

ChrisD ( ) posted Wed, 04 February 2004 at 5:52 AM

PapaBlueMarlin, The face room is for adding pre-made adult faces in different combinations to the default Poser 5 heads. The head needs to have a special marker in the code for the face room to recognise it. Also, there has to be a special polygon marker in the centre of the eyes for the face room to know where to shift the eyeballs in relation to the new head shape. In addition (and most importantly) the head mesh MUST be the Poser 5 head mesh - ours is not, it's an original mesh. So.. if your goal was to put adult heads on the babies, I'm afraid your out of luck... However, they should be slicker than snot with the face putty tool!!!! The face putty tool works with existing morphs on the model and allows you to shape the face manually. The more high quality morphs a model has, the better your control with the face putty. The Cubed Babies have over 300 facial morphs!!!

ChrisD ( ) posted Wed, 04 February 2004 at 6:03 AM

My God, you people are fast artists!!! I can't believe the renders you have created already! LMAO at the Minotaur one! The Cabbage Patch render looks like a totally different baby! Did you find the shaping morphs easy enough to use? Please don't forget to tell us what you think about using the babies. Philywebrider ( ) posted Wed, 04 February 2004 at 12:21 PM

ChrisD Do you charge TAX????? If so, what tax for who?

sandoppe ( ) posted Wed, 04 February 2004 at 1:07 PM

I had the same question Philywebrider. I was charged sales tax on the purchase. While the State of Minnesota does have a state sales tax of 6.5%, it does not apply (so far as I know) to internet purchases outside of the state of Minnesota, so I'm not sure who Chris will pay the tax to. I've noticed that here at Rendo, Tennessee residents are charged sales tax, but I think that may be because Renderosity is based in Tennessee?? I know that when I purchase from Jasc software online, they charge me sales tax, but they are a Minnesota based company. I think states do this so as not to disadvantage other state based businesses who do not sell over the internet. But this does not apply to purchases made from out of state firms. This could be a glitch in Chris's store set up?

Philywebrider ( ) posted Wed, 04 February 2004 at 1:39 PM

Sandoppe-I'm no tax expert but, like you said, I too thought the general rule was, if the seller had a store in the state of the customer...then the customer paid tax, if the seller did not have a store in the state of the customer, no tax was required... Unless the law changed. So if they are charging tax, who is getting the money? ChrisD-Again, I'm no tax expert, can you help by explaining. Is there a glitch as sandoppe suggested? If the laws have changed it could mean big changes on Renderosity, Daz, etc.

PheonixRising ( ) posted Wed, 04 February 2004 at 1:45 PM

Well they are in Ireland. Perhaps the rules of their country are different.

Hi PheonixRising-Your proability right, I was just hoping ChrisD could explain a little, if that is the case.

sandoppe ( ) posted Wed, 04 February 2004 at 2:37 PM

Tax rules have to be real pain for people trying to sell anything, much less internationally. Hopefully Chris gets some time to explain. I think he's going to sell a basket full of babies no matter what :) They are some very fine models. I love the amazing number of morphs that are available and the ease of their use. What's nice is that you cannot exceed certain limits with most of them....prevents breaking when you try to apply anything too extreme. Have only run into one issue: When you apply the expressions (faces)in poser 5, you get the statement that "they don't apply to some figures" or something like that. It's the same message you get when you try to apply a P5 character pose to a DAZ model. The expressions do apply, however, in spite of the message.

noggin ( ) posted Wed, 04 February 2004 at 2:58 PM

I've been playing with this new baby this evening and have to say it is superb (I went for the P5 version even tho' I tend to work mostly with ProPak because of the comments about the morph set ups and I wanted the option of the dynamic clothing) The head morphs are simply spot on_ I just couldn't help laughing out loud at the realism of some of the compound 'expression' morphs. It would have been nice to see more whole body morphs for different physiques and perhaps some grasp dials for working the toes together (yes they do pose individually) The total body and head shape and the way it poses is a real advance on the millenium baby. The textures are lovely and render extremely well using the firefly renderer. The male 'undercarriage' is sensibly modelled :the female a little 'coy' but one can understand this these days. Putting aside the tax issue (which I can't with authority comment on_but would have thought only applied to European Union purchasers_being VAT) I think this is a fair price for the quality of the model. However, I think this should probably be regarded as the gold standard baby model, it is a bit 'niche' so an alternative strategy might have been to loss lead with it,get your new companies name known and go for volume sales_ but heck its hard to decide these things! If the baby is a good example of whats to come I think we are in for a treat!!

ChrisD ( ) posted Wed, 04 February 2004 at 2:59 PM

Hi everyone, The tax issue is a little complicated. Yes we are in Ireland but technically, we are selling our products from the USA because the files are hosted by RegNow - an American company. They are also the holders of the merchant account. I'm not sure what state they are in but certain US orders will automatically have tax added to them - it's out of our hands. We have no ciontrol over the merchant account - just the price. As for the expression problem - that's a P5 issue that I've seen before - I will correct it and upload a new version. I will e-mail new expression pz2 files to anyone that has already downloaded the P5 version. Chris

KateTheShrew ( ) posted Wed, 04 February 2004 at 3:16 PM

I have the same expression problem in ProPak, not sure why. How do you fix it? If it's a simple enough process I can probably do it myself. Which, now that I think about it, would be great because I have a lot of vicky stuff that gives me the same message. Hmmm... another tutorial for someone to post? :) Kate

sandoppe ( ) posted Wed, 04 February 2004 at 3:32 PM

Thanks for the explanation on the tax thing Chris and for the upcoming P5 fix :) Noggin: It might be easier for them to do the "loss lead" thing on a model that has obviously not had as much invested time wise. The way I figure, I only spent about $15 more (if you don't count the tax) for two babies than I would have for one DAZ baby with morphs and props included. I still would not have had a little sleeper outfit or as cute a baby. Plus, I would not have had the option of buying a fully "Poser 5 compatible" baby from DAZ 5!:) I really agree with you on the head morphs and the over all ease of use of these models. So far I haven't tried the little girl......I personally think Dylan is the cutest :) So Chris.....someone indicated that you designed Judy and Don? Did you design Will and Penny too? :) If so, please don't take offense (I have a habit of being blunt, I'm afraid), but it is clear that you have learned much since then :) Or maybe.....limits were set by CL that were beyond your control. In any case, you have certainly made your skills evident with this creation. I can hardly wait to see what's next!

noggin ( ) posted Wed, 04 February 2004 at 3:51 PM

You are right of course Sandoppe. I had a bit of 'shall I shan't I'before I purchased but I have no reservations having had a play tonight. There's an enormous lot of work and thought gone in to the whole package. I for one am very happy with the product and price and its good to have the whole package as one. Don't you just love that 'almost crying' morph_ we need a quivering lower lip and upper body shudder animation to go with this. Ah it does bring back happy memories of sleepless nights!

sandoppe ( ) posted Wed, 04 February 2004 at 4:10 PM

Yes.....and the "anger", "surprised" and "laughing" one as well :) This is the first "human" model that you can actually make laugh without it looking totally stupid!! :) That's how good these morphs are!

elizabyte ( ) posted Wed, 04 February 2004 at 11:30 PM

These are very beautiful, but the package as presented is way more than I need (and a little pricey). I'd love to be able to buy the babies separately, as has been suggested, and the pose pack and other stuff (crawling animation, for example) separately. I never, never EVER do animations, so for me, adding that in as a "value" you get is pointless. You may as well include instructions written in ancient Greek and it would be just as valuable to me... ;-) I would REALLY love to have these models, but not the package as presented, and not with all the extra stuff... Please? I've wanted a really good looking Poser baby for ages... ;) bonni
