Does the same hold true for getting the body to look like the head texture; post work that is? I'd say pre-work. Just reverse the process. My suggestion is to go for general tones on the body skins and then match your heads to them as you develop them. Very white, mid-tone caucasian, olive toned (which could cover Mediteranian, Hispanic, Asain, etc.) and black (African, south Asian, etc.). Use any photos to get your color readings. Manipping colors on caucasian body textures to get a really black skin might be a problem though.
