Just found you lot here so I haven't tried this yet, but I will, asap. 8) The results are great, I wish I still had my old puter to try it out on, it was a AMD K series 300MHz with 64Mb ram. It ran as slowly as treacle which is probably why I didn't use Bryce or Poser much back then. lol 8) I'll render it when I get off line and post it later. I now have a Athlon 2.5+GHz with 1.5Gb ddr ram which should be pretty fast. Catlin

HP Pavilion 8755C, P-III 850 MHz, Intel chipset graphics, 512MB RAM. Ack! Now I know why I do more modeling than rendering. Makes me wonder about my ol' Presario 1690, AMD K6-II 450 MHz, ATI, 128MB laptop... *When the Render Time (Rt) equals 1/60th of a second, we will have realtime rendering. That's when all of our old Bryce scenes become gold, in terms of the video-game industry and of course the imaging and virtual reality industries. Processors need be a mere 200 times faster or so to accomplish this, which seems ludicrous, but then again, when the Commodore 64 came out at a whopping 1 MHz processor speed, who would have thought we'd be pulling GHz so soon, and for so cheap?* Well, all you need is a hundred 2GHz machines networked and running Bryce Lightning. LOL! (If only I had the resources to pull it off, and somehow manage to get the network working around 100%.) Of course if I could have acess to real time rendering, I would accomplish a lot more with still images - also I would give animation a LOT more consideration. ;)

I closed my window a while ago, but my time was: 1:45 without anti-alisasing 6:45 with anti-aliasing 6:05 "fineart" anti-aliasing at 4 rays-per-pixel 35:02 premium AA with DOF at 36 rays per pixel. Powermac G4 933Mhz "quicksilver" 1.5 GB SDRAM crappy crappy slow 5200 RPM 80 GIG HD 17" apple flat panel Geforce Ti4600 - 128MB gfx card

Y'know, I think I might actually have the resources for that. I live on a big university campus, so there are already thousands of computers on the network, I'll I'd have to do is take over a few computer labs or the computers of my 100 or so closest friends (or both!). Seems like an awful lot of effort, though, and it's probably hard to install stuff on the university computers without permission. What I really want to use is the supercomputer center! [note to self: make friends with computer science grad students]

(grins at Madmax, you KNOW I've been waiting to see YOURS!) I love ya, man... Honestly, it's probably your 5200 RPM HD that's slowing it down more than the Mac-factor. I remember my old 8 GB storage drive, back in the Pentium-2 days, and having to wait half an hour to save a 20 MB scene file! As for YOU, PaulJS, I REFUSE to have merely the SECOND slowest benchmark time! I'm off to rebuild some old Pentium 1's, dig up some 8MB SIMMs... we'll see who has the last laugh! (grins)

we'll re-run this benchmark when i get my G5 :D

I'm downloading the file now. ETA::9 more minutes. I'll render it in a while and let you know the time in the morning.

This is the machine I use. Gunna show my wife this thread, maybe we can up 'new computer' on the priority list.

And this is why all my pic are so ameturish, my learning curve is like 12 times longer than average because of hardware.

(grins) I've been pushed up from the slowest now... (Makes you third slowest now.) So now you have xenic101 to watch out for ShadowDragonLord. LOL... Now I'll have to get out my old laptop... Hahahaha! :p

Hehehe... My old laptop doesn't even have enough drive space to load Bryce... So, where have all the Mac users gone??? ;)

Yeah.... once was on purpose; twice was foolishness. I was trying to ambush a possible new response from the thread at the link. I figured it was better to bm rather than just sit here and wait. Glad you showed up though, thanks for pulling over!
