Subject: Extracting posette from the poser install, without re-installing

Ok, after first installing poser 4 and pro pack I customised my install, (read deleted all the stuff I didn't want) and proceeded to install victoria, mike, etc. Now, I've purchased the clothing converter from the 'Rosity marketplace and am happily sharing my characters wardrobe around. I've come across some old freebies for posette (whom I've deleted) and would like to convert them, unfortunately I can't do this unless I have access to the 'cr2 file for her, so does anyone know how/if I can extract posette in all her glory from the poser install file without re-installing & probably messing up my current install. I'm running windows xp home & only have one partition on my hard drive.

install it to a different location....when it asks if you want to install to C:program files etc..change it to c:tmpposerdeletelater or whatever ;o)....grab your files then delete the folder or uninstall from add remove....Steve

Look for a program called i5comp. It can extract files directly from the data1.cab where all Poser files are located. This .cab file is in your Poser install directory. There's a thing I do that is pretty useful: burn the Poser directory to a CD right after you install it. You can later delete the files you don't want in your HD and, if you need them later, just copy them from the CD. You can even run Poser from the CD...

Doh, "never try to do something the easy way if there is a more difficult way to do it" (LOL). Thanks Steve, I've now got posettes .cr2 & can convert away. (Note to self, drink more coffee before posting questions)

Now that sounds like a very good idea WZN, fortunately Steve saved me this time, but I think I'll be following your advice in future

WZN, I don't see a data1.cab in my Poser Propack directory. Is the "Poser install directory" something other than ...Curious LabsPoser4?

All Microsoft operating systems which use CAB's include a program called EXPAND which will also do the job of extracting files from a CAB. It's a command line program, though.

The CABs from Poser are made with InstallShield, that are different from the CABs from Microsoft. DATA1.CAB is located in your Poser 4 installation CD. I'm not sure, but Propack uses WISEInstall, that's another type of installer. I have to confirm this.

Flame from a Posette lover: Why would anyone ever want to operate Poser w/o her? {Just joking!} Seriously I still think she is a great figure and new stuff is currently cropping up for her.
