I am new to Digital photography but I did take a semester of traditional. I'm just asking for some tips for starters.

Hi and welcome to the forum! IMHO.... photography is photography is photography... the basic fundamentals are the same whether it's a digital camera or a traditional slr camera using film. Since you've had a photography class that's fantastic, you should have a good foundation in the basics so you should understand f/stops and how ISO, aperture and shutter speed work together to produce an image and how to use this to control the way you WANT and image to look..... What kind of camera are you using? And do you have any specific questions?.... If you think of any post them here! As far as tips go, it's hard to give any kind of advice without knowing what kind of equipment you use, what type of images you like to take, etc... so what you may be interested in knowing?

How do i adjsut the ISO and the aperture and shutter speed of my camera? (it's a HP 635 2.1 mp)

Did your camera come with a manual? Sorry but I wouldn't be able to tell you that as I don't have the camera in front of me.... There is usually some sort of adjustments available, however if you're using a point & shoot, everything may be automatic..... Although in looking at dpreview.com (linked above) it would appear that you can change the ISO..... You may also want to visit the HP site and the specifics on your camera ..... ISO: capture menu, screen 2, ISO speed. (it's in the manual :)) Couldn't find apeture and shutter speed settings in the the manual (which I downloaded from HP), I think this camera doesn't have those settings (like my crappy digital)

I figured it all out. There is no manual f-stops though or shutter speeds, jsut different oens but there are 3 diff isos. It's not perfect but it'll do.

Hi Tristan. Michelle, shame on you for lumping film with digital, lol. You didnt think an old fashioned traditionalist like myself would let that one go? I'm new here as well Tristan and I look forward to seeing your work posted in the gallery. Everyone here has been great in welcoming me into the site. One of the great things about digital is the unlimited ability to experiment with the shots and see how they will turn out. Even better if you have a lap top handy to download while your still in the area. I'm using digital more and more in my work, but I'm clinging desparately, it would seem, to the film medium.
