Basically, civilians like you and me can buy a Blank DVD-R and back up 4.7Gb worth of data. Or, you can buy a drive that will handle DVD-RAM disks, which are double-sided, and never come out of their little plastic "jewel box", you just slide the whole case in, like a big floppy disk, those hold 9-10Gb. Since 8X DVD-R burners are now out, you can get 4X DVD burners for around $100 USD. I've even seen 8X burners for $130 USD AS
