Ok...I posted a very basic tutorial a week or so ago for Apophysis v1 which can be used for version 2 also, check the link above. You can also change the transforms (triangles) that are created in a random flame to suit your needs more. In the editor in Apophysis (the thing where you move the triangles around) you will see some tabs on the right. Click on the variations tab and it gives the settings for the present highlighted triangle. You will see a list of the different variations used in that triangle. All the values have to add up to 1. So if you type 1 in the box next to Linear then that triangle will only use the Linear variation. You can have any combination of variations you like on each triangle...Just remember they have to add up to a total of 1. In my experience dropping the filter density won't necessarily mean less background noise on a flame, it can sometimes make it worse. You are making the dots sharper so they show up more. Try raiseing the filter radius slightly to 0.5 or 0.7. This will mean less detail in the flame itself but it should also help blur the noise into the background more. Failing this, there isn't a lot more you can do, sometimes you just get bad flames that won't behave as you want them to. Matt.
