Pat you are reminding me that I have to rebuild mine. My biggest problem today is that it is SLOW! Welcome back and get that camera clicking! Magick Michael

Still not stable ... those aren't happy words. Did you install Norton Internet security? If not, look at directdeals.com for OEM price. Did you apply all Windoze updates to XP? Are you sure that all components are properly seated? The next step would be to remove all devices and expansion cards except the video card and the HDD ... if not OK, it could be the HDD swap area. If it is stable, reinstall 1 component at a time and check the stability -- that would locate the component causing the problem. HTH ... but let me know if not.

Civilians ... I still don't know how you people can make XP unstable. Well, ok ... I can think of 3 ways right off to install the hardware incorrectly that would do it, but ... oh, never mind. :) -=>Donald

Civilians??? Uuummm, have you looked at all of the replies in the 2 "My Little Corner" threads? > I still don't know how you people can make XP unstable. Shows what you know. [sly grin] ... 'sides, it comes that way right out of the box. MGD

Heheh ... I calls 'em like I sees 'em. :) Civilians ... always giving me lip service. hehehe "it comes that way right out of the box"... Oh, I see ... now it's one of those "Failure is not an option - it comes bundled with Microsoft products" deals, huh? :) Since I finished the beta testing of XP and it went gold, I haven't had any instability at all. They just sent me the gold Office 2003 ... don't think I'm all that ready to see how stable that is. Anyway, where was I? Oh yea ... Civilians ... always blaming their equipment. hehehe runs around giggling wildly -=>Donald

runs around giggling wildly hmm...I'd chase you with the paddle if I could just remember where I left it!

AFIK, the line is "It's a poor workman who always blames his tools." WRT computers, a problem can be caused by hardware, software, setup, bad data, ... or even an unholy collusion of some of the above. Why just last week, I had a power hit ... on the restart, everything seemed OK, but had a power supply fail in one of my SETI boxes ... a few days later, a HDD failed in another. I have about 6 power failures per year -- and the SETI farm is running on 3 UPS; that was the first failure of a power supply; the first failure of a HDD in service (some were bad right out of the box). Stuff happens. MGD p.s. and the "My little corner" discussion?

@ patmartj Happy that I could help. MGD

MGD - :) Civilians, always bugging me. :) Don't pay any attention to me MGD. I'm just poking at you. I work on a 200 PC/30 server/6 mainframe system every day. Doesn't mean I know more than the next computer geek at home. well, actually it does ... 'cause those geeks are civilians and you know how those guys are. hehehehe. -=>Donald

OK IMO you can find the True Geek Test (TM) by visiting the website for Computer Geeks ... be sure to note how the visitor count is displayed. BTW, they sell components (mostly new items, some refurbs) at low price. About 90% of my SETI farm was built using parts from them. MGD

Yup ... I've been using Computer Geeks for about 5 years now. They sometimes have parts that we need for work (legacy systems with no vendor support). Alhtough, these days, I tend to just go with TigerDirect for most things.
