Subject: Japanese tea room

Orio ( ) posted Fri, 05 March 2004 at 8:11 AM · edited Sun, 01 December 2024 at 2:06 PM

I remember having seen time ago a beautiful and free japanese room prop... actually I'm not even sure now if it was for Poser or for Bryce... I think it was a tea room, or perhaps a normal living room. Does anyone remember it and could you please point me to the download link? Thanks Orio

RuntimeDNA had a nice oriental room I believe, but I can't seem to find it at their site now. Maybe if you ask Sydd?

FastTraxx made one in 3ds format with nice pictures on the walls. I couldn't find it at his site http://www.chemicalstudios.com now though.

One room that I know of is Tararu's Room -- http://www.jet.ne.jp/~m-jacky/index.html -- which is a small room typical of a modern Japanese house. I seem to recall something more traditional but I don't know where I saw it.

There is a tearoom at the PropsGuild (subscription now) It looks a bit largish, and I'm not sure about the way the floor is arranged, but I suppose shoguns would take tea with a courtful of people. (This may be the one by fast traxx) Dora made 2 rooms, both pz3s, and they are exquisite: bokuden and syoin. (I think I may have found them through the links at Iso's Page. RDNA had a nice room which was an exe, not a zip. I'm fairly sure that Rena and Steve offered an oriental room at one point... hmm... more like a courtyard. Expandingwave (new site) has a couple of interiors with mats, pillows, low furniture, place settings, art on the walls. They are not free, but beautiful. Zippo at lab108 has a tatami mat. If you get one of the sets which has separable shoji screens, you can make a little tea room. Carolly

The Dora sounds familiar. I KNOW I had a traditional room once, but for some reason all I have left is a single tatami mat.

Thank you all! Dora's room was the one I had in mind!!!! Here's a picture with it, I have found with a search: http://hometown.aol.com/beyondvr/syoin.html but... I could not find the site it can be downloaded from :-(

Wow! That looks nice rendered in Vue. :) The file for the Syoin has a readme. The first word is Poser 4, there is a lot of Japanese which my computer translated as abstract symbols, and an email address at the bottom. No guarantees that it is current: drgon@diddy.zzn.com The other thing I can suggest is to go to Iso's site: http://iso.power.ne.jp/ and click on information > favorite sites to check through his links. The last possiblity is to ask one of the people such as Kozaburo or Yamato if they know where to find the rooms now. Good luck! Carolly

The email address does not work anymore (got back an undeliverable) I have searched through some of the links, but without a clue, it's a desperate task, like finding a needle in a bunch of straw. I will try to IM Yamato, but I needed the thing this weekend, I doubt he can reply in time. Orio

Maybe best thing is to fake it up with primitives, then, adding textures from Expanding Wave. Wish you had mentioned needing it by the weekend -- a friendly modeller might have had more time to take a whack at it. It's the textures that are the killer, tho.

Orio, If this will do let me know at coolerbear@att.net & I can ship the files over via email. Details 1301 polys, 450K zipped with textures & templates shown, pp2 format floor, ceiling, & sliding panel are "smart" propped to the room. The inner & outer walls have separate materials assigned so you can make individual walls transparent for different cutaway looks. The panels also have separate materials.

Nice work, cooler.

That's a nice basic setup from cooler... even has a niche for a scroll or an arrangement of branches. :) If you need more than that or if textures are a problem, and you need it this weekend, the zashimi room at Expandingwave allows many different views. It is a larger formal room, and has a small brazier with screen (hard to make tea with cold water!). $24, but it looks very nice. The free stuff there has tea sets and chopsticks and saki cups and other small items which you may want to look at as well. Carolly

Make that "zashiki" room. I need more coffee before typing to lubricate the fingers. ;^) well, since I am adding to the post, I'll add another picture. The files come in 3ds and vue format. Some of the smaller props are already in pp2 format. Perhaps with time and requests, more of the stuff here will be pre-poserized for us. :) Carolly

Orio. I sent you two mails about Syoin. Is it in time ?

hauksdottir ( ) posted Sun, 07 March 2004 at 7:48 AM

Yamato, Can you let me know a current site as well? Has Dora made other rooms? when someone asks about these things, I like to know where to direct them in the hunt. :) Thank you! Carolly

Orio ( ) posted Sun, 07 March 2004 at 10:39 AM

Thank you Yamato, I have received your emails. Hauksdottir, I don't seem to be able to find active links on your page, but thank you anyway. And thank you very much Cooler, for your great offer. And thanks also to everyone else who replied. You all are a bunch of fantastic guys! :-) best, Orio

Yamato ( ) posted Sun, 07 March 2004 at 11:40 AM

Sorry hauksdottir. I lost the link to Dora too. I guess the site closed. If you need Japanese interior. These sites are useful. Zippo http://mugi.site.ne.jp/lab108/furniture.html Honey http://edogoyomi.page.ne.jp/download/3dmodels/props02/index.html

Yamato, Thank you for letting us know. I hope that the site is closed for good reasons such as going on to school or job or family. Dara did careful work, and I'm glad for the rooms which were made. Carolly

Orio, I just reread your message.... Did you try under the top banner at the line which says "home, smooth catalogue, simple catalog..."? They darken when I mouse over them and the curser changes to a hand. Clicking on "smooth catalog" gets the better pictures, after that any thumbnail will lead to more information, and larger pictures often have a sequence of images. The catalog buttons bring up a menu on the left with categories including freebies (5 pages now - this is growing). The site is restrained in design, minimalist like some of the better Japanese sites, but clicking around usually uncovers the treasures. With Cooler's frame and Zippo's tatami mat, you could have come close. At least Japanese architecture has held simplicity as a virtue. You probably couldn't have faked Victorian gingerbread or Art Nouveau curves in a weekend. The big thing here is proportion and the mats would have given guidance. Good luck! Carolly
