You can apply a MAT pose to a prop IF (and only if) this prop is parented to a figure (Poser then believes it is a part of the figure). A more detailed explanation (by much better people than me) and snippets of code are at the link above. I'm glad you found another way to do it. And I'm very interested in seing how it works. By the way, isn't that method also limited to one hand ? (of course, with a readscript, it's much less of a concern if you can insert the parenting part outside of the readscripted part).
