hmm..I'm not much help, I play backwards and upside down (left-handed, and never knew I was doing it 'wrong' until someone pointed it out..;), Bar chords usually have the index finger held down over most of the frets down-neck of the chord. I guess it depends on style. The remaining fingers do the chords. A G chord looks like 'the finger'..;) D's and A's are the same fingers as normal, just farther up. Hammer-on's (the Van Halen stuff) you shouldn't have to worry about.
Pick hand is usually the first 3 fingers (all right, thumb, and first 2 fingers..;), angle of attack, and technique vary by artist. hope this helps.
