Subject: Need Help with Hair for Michael

I'm having trouble getting Michael's hair to look realistic with any texture. Can someone recommend some good hair textures (either free or for sale)? I saw some in the Free Stuff section before all the controversy, but they seem to be gone now. Maybe I'm not using the right transparency settings. Can anyone recommend the best combination of texture, transmap and settings? Thanks! I'm still a relative newbie.

mark, I'm assuming you got the texture with the hair. The transparency maps are what make hair seem 'realistic'. Set your max and min sliders (transparency) for the hair to 100%. That's a start. Now--if you want to change color, a good way to start is to play with the color and ambient color. For instance--I changed my ambient color to a medium brown red and got a nice reddish strawberry blonde (if you do this, don't forget to change the color of your 2 eyebrows to blend G). In the store there was a set of Michael hair textures, but you can do similarly by opening the hair texture in a graphics program and playing with changing colors of the original text (BE SURE--to change the name when you save or you will overwrite the blond tex map).

Thanks! I figured the transmaps were the key. Yes, I did get the texture with the hair. I also tried using one of Catharina's, which I know should give stellar results. I didn't get a transmap with hers, so I assume I should use the one that came with Michael's hair? One of the problems was that the stray hair strands kept looking very unrealistic and plastic. I've seen some people's renderings without those, but I can't see any morphs to eliminate them. Maybe the transparency is the key there too -- I'll spend some time experimenting.

Sorry for the confusion. The texture did come with the hair. I just wasn't getting the best possible results with it.

Check the 'falloff' setting. My hair strands are quite transparent.

Thanks for the info, I thought it did, but you just never know. Now to find time to even install Michael......let alone play (oops sorry) with him :)

Thanks. I'll try the falloff settings when I get back home. What range do you recommend? I'm not sure why this one gave me so much trouble -- I've done okay with Vicki, etc.

I know the Michael hair doesn't come with the transparacny applied to begin with ... Just make sure all the groups have it applied and it should work pretty well .. Good luck
