Doga isn't as much a real graphics editor as a shape assembler; you pick spaceship or robot parts and assemble them into larger ships. I can attest that actual 8-year-olds (well, boys) are entertained by this for long periods of time. You can learn about sizing, mirroring, assembling, etc. (but don't let them know that..;) I've used it on a couple of pics when I'm in a hurry. I'd also recommend Wings3d as well.
