To adress your problem of working with the character instead of the clothes : Before importing the character in Poser, open the cr2 in a text editor and, for each bodypart you feel you might risk selecting by mistake, set the "hidden" value to 1 instead of the default 0. This will prevent you from selecting the character in the work window or from the part list, but you can still select it via the hierachy editor, should you need to.
