Subject: Background - well ... for free

Schlabber ( ) posted Sun, 04 April 2004 at 3:21 PM · edited Fri, 29 November 2024 at 10:52 AM

OK - so it takes me a few weeks to know most about all these dials and buttons of the new DigiCam - and also the "need-to-knows" about SLR-Cameras (changeable optics - I don't know the exact english words for that). I shoot around 2000 images. Here are some results for sky-backgrounds (and one for a scenery background). I had always problems with my older Digicam in the Pixelation-area especially in the grey-tones. But I think those are a bit better ... These backgrounds are free for your usage (except selling): Please take care - to save bandwidth don't download them twice (if possible). Finally those are huge (6,5 MPixel - around 1,5 - 3 MByte each). The camera-stats: Canon EOS 10D Objects: Tamron SP 28-75 XR Di Sigma 15-30 EX DG Aspherical Sigma APO 50-500 EX RF HSM Tripod: HAMA Profil 74 (for the one scenery-image) I'll crosspost this in the Vue-Forum and photography-forum also - as it might be of interest for Vue and photography - people :). I don't know if I should make a background or texture-DVD - finally it depends on the reaction here. And then - I don't know how much such a DVD should cost. A special thx for Tigee and Hobbes for the hosting of the images :). Well - here are the links: http://www.zotteltierhobbes.de/schlabber/01.jpg http://www.zotteltierhobbes.de/schlabber/02.jpg http://www.zotteltierhobbes.de/schlabber/03.jpg http://www.zotteltierhobbes.de/schlabber/04.jpg http://www.zotteltierhobbes.de/schlabber/05.jpg http://www.zotteltierhobbes.de/schlabber/06.jpg http://www.zotteltierhobbes.de/schlabber/07.jpg http://www.zotteltierhobbes.de/schlabber/08.jpg http://www.zotteltierhobbes.de/schlabber/04s.jpg (No. 4 with a solarisation-PS-Filter) http://www.zotteltierhobbes.de/schlabber/backgr-exp.jpg http://www.zotteltierhobbes.de/schlabber/w01.jpg http://www.zotteltierhobbes.de/schlabber/w02.jpg http://www.zotteltierhobbes.de/schlabber/w03.jpg http://www.zotteltierhobbes.de/schlabber/w04.jpg http://www.zotteltierhobbes.de/schlabber/w05.jpg http://www.zotteltierhobbes.de/schlabber/w06.jpg And - don't worry - this won't stop me from doing poses ;) Happy posing Schlabber (who hopes to be back healthy soon :( )

Hi, Schlabber, Just to clarify about your usage restrictions, you said, "These backgrounds are free for your usage (except selling)," does that mean not to sell the actual images such as in a set, or not to use them in commercial renders, or both? I want to be sure I don't do the wrong thing with them. And thanks! Melanie

all of those url's take me to http://www.incredifind.com

Schlabber ( ) posted Mon, 05 April 2004 at 3:35 AM

Dizzie - using a download-manager or something like that ;) - paste the URL into a browser and it should work. Maybe clear the Cache of your browser first. Melanie - of course you can use them for commercial renders - you can also use one or two of them for a cyclorama-plane (if you mention where are they from). I just don't want to find them "as they are" in a texture package. That's all (hope that helps)

Aww Schlabber... That's not FAIR! I JUST managed to talk hubby away from the 10D and "down" to the 300D... and then YOU come along :o( Anyway, these are GREAT pictures! Thanks for sharing!

ernyoka1: You can believe me that it wasn't an easy decission to take the more expensive one. Basically the 300D or "EOS Rebel" IS the same camera (it has a better flashlight mounted also - but as most people know you should not use the mounted flashlight - those are mostly horrible). The amplitude to the 10D was done when I found out for what I'll use this camera: to take also a lot of images from rock-walls etc. Then the magnesium-body has it's advantages (and finally I found a seller with a pretty good price near to my hometown - I didn't want to buy such a technical item via ebay). You shouldn't make the error and save the money on the obejctive or the lens unit (whatever this is called in English). This is still the heart of a camera and it was the main reason for buying an SLR (allthough I knew that this would cost me some hundreds of Dollars (or thousands) more). If you don't want to make extrem images (let's say you want a camera for bodytextures) you should buy a compact camera (with mounted objective) and give away a few dollars more for such a camera. A 300D or 10D with a 100-200 Dollar lense is as worthy as a Canon G5. Then you're happier with a Nikon Coolpix 5700 or 8700 or a Fujifilm S7000. And also avoid too extrem ranges or try them out a lot before you buy them - for example I have a 28-300 (from Tamron) objective also - but above 150 - 200 the light-power just is not that good anymore) the (bigger in the lens-diameter) Sigma 50-500 is way better there (but unfortunately also way more expensive). One thing is also certain: The price of the body will fall (that's the digital flew) - the price of the objectives will not fall that quick ;). Take a peek at www.dpreview.com and read some opinions about a few cameras before you actually buy one. Hope I was able to help a bit

Schlabber: I used to be a freelance photographer and have a lot of SLR equipment, including Leica cams/lens [best in the world]. I have not kept up on the new Digital cameras, but wonder did Leica produce any digital cameras?

TrekkieGrrrl ( ) posted Tue, 06 April 2004 at 3:02 AM

Mondoxjake, according to my photo-freakish hubby, Leica HAS made a digicam. Not a SLR but a pocket camera which got great reviews (of course partly due to the superior optics) (if that's the word in english...) Schlabber, hubby has a EOS3 and an EOS5, so the big idea IS that you can use the objectives :o) And yes, the housing is more sturdy (and weather resistant) on the 10D than on the 300. but the PRICE.. shudders

ernyoka1: So - take your equipment (esp. the objectives) and try them out - I know that some older Sigma-objectives need to have a chip-upgrade to be workable with Digital-SLRs mondoxjake: Well, if you compare digital and the "old" phototaking equipment you will be surprised - the old is still better (lol) if you want extreme quality. But then you have to buy also an excellent scanner and the photocosts for films will kill you - well if you plan only using images in a digital way - then a digital camere might be the better deal.

mondoxjake ( ) posted Tue, 06 April 2004 at 12:17 PM

Ernyoka1: Thanks for the feedback. Schlabber: I do have a cheaper model Digital Fixed lens [a HP model of a few years ago] and this is what I consider my 'snapshot' or 'photo sharing' camera. I still prefer my old SLRs for serious work. And you are right...cost of film, processing chemicals, and photo print paper is outrageous. Prices and standards on these used to be pretty much set by the silver market, now it is "charge what you can get".

Thank you! I prefer to take slides with my trusty old Nikon... but the only slide developers now are the custom camera shops. The digital quality isn't there yet... but getting closer with every year. For me, the main problem is depth: getting the entire range of light in an image. :sigh: Carolly
