Now that someone's reminded me, how likely is a model from Sci-Fi 3D (the link to www.theforce.net above) to import cleanly into Poser?

I've got a few ship meshes from that site, mostly in .3ds format, and some have imported fairly well, while others look like Scotty was operating the Transporter while drunk. The USS Constitution model in particular gave me a (very!) exploded view.

Is .3ds the best format to use, or would something else be more reliable? Is there anything I can do to get better imports?

I'm using Poser 4.0.3 in Win98 with 512MB of RAM, if that's any help.
