Well after 3 days I'm ready to start working on the body textures to create the open chest wounds. Got sidetracked today because someone asked if I had the Lament Cube. I had the layout for the design but had never created it. So, off I went and here is Pinhead chasing Lament's Cube. Will pinhead be for sale or free ( or neither ) ?

xantor ( ) posted Wed, 21 April 2004 at 2:37 AM

You could try doing the other two sennobites, the female one would be easyish but the fat one might be a bit more difficult...

I'm submitting Lament's Cube now and as soon as I'm done with PinHead he'll be for free. He's a by-product for a prop-creator friend in LA. Yes, he's asked me to do the female Cennabite AKA "Princess" and "Butterball" the fat one. I told him if he gets me the one of the real Lament's Cubes from the movie prop collection I'd do it for him. Here's the direct link for the download of Lament's cube: (Be patient with the download, right now my server is dumping 5 GB of transfers a day from my other free stuff!)

I THINK that the lament's cube was already a freebie somewehere... probably rdna.com, but I'm not sure.

um it looks as if pinhead replaced his pins with seamstress pins ya know the ones .....the ones with the pearl tops lol but other then that WOW it looks so perfect!

xantor ( ) posted Wed, 21 April 2004 at 10:50 AM

Grace37 is right the pins are a bit thin, in the "real" one the pins are more solid. If you use google and search for hellraiser and images you will find loads of reference pictures, I didn`t print any because of the copyright hoo hah.

Thanks for the tips sandmarine and leather-guy! I did not know of the problems that caleb had incurred. I can assure you that the simple puzzle box prop I made will not incur these problems. Number one-The basic layout of Lament's Cube that I used is 100% Public Domain compiled. The panels are from an authorized fan website that provides this layout for download for free with no restrictions except non-commercial usage. Number Two-The layout has been altered and enhanced in Photoshop. Thanks for your concern and your "head's up". I appreciate it greatly. Thanks, Dave-So! Thanks Grace37, all I had was a needle with a plastic head on it that I had downloaded as Freebie in a pack from god-only knows where. It was buried in my Miscellaneous folder. I started out just for fun placing the pins to see if it would work and how long it would take. I then liked the look so much even after I found a nail that would've worked that I decided to keep it. The nails overcome his facial features and I just didn't want to re-create PinHead, but wanted to enhance him as well.

sorry, xantor! You got your post in under mine. I understand the concerns over copyright issues and I think you'll find my last response answers the concern leather-guy was expressing for me earlier. I come from a family of attorneys, and have been involved with copyright issues for twenty-five years. I used to be a professional concert photographer through the 70's and 80's and have had much of my art stolen and copyrights infringed upon by record company and talent managers. I was well known throughout the record industry here in the US for 10 years and traveled the country "backstage" for many, too many, "hazey" years. This Lament's Cube is my creation based upon non-copyrighted materials for personal use only and clearly states so in the readme file that accompanies it. Also, so no one is misled, my cube is not a puzzle box, it is a 6-sided cube with a template overlay only. All copyrights that I have been able to locate through the US Coptright office apply to puzzle boxes only, not visual representations of the cube. Thanks for your concern and your comments everyone! I have had only had one bad experience in this forum before, all others have been thoughtful, positive, and helpful experiences. I really do appreciate all the folks in this forum for their willingness to share, help, comment, and teach us all.

I wasnt really commenting on the copyright, that doesnt seem like much of a problem to me (unless someone makes a commercial film using this poser character!) As long as it is used for non-commercial purposes it should be ok. I was actually commenting on the pins, better pins on the head would make the figure look much more like the real one.

d-larsen ( ) posted Wed, 21 April 2004 at 2:04 PM

Sorry, I didn't mean to say you were commenting about the copyright deal, I should broke the paragraph or separated the comments. Thanks for understanding!

Grace37: See the earlier message and thread link to Caleb's problems from 2002. But it would be cool to have a morphing version of the cube! I'm not going to change my version of the pins because I'm taking artistic license with my version. ( In other words after two days of placing 150 pins to match the grid template, I'm not going thru that again!) Kaposer: I am using a bump right now, and currently have seven layers of grids making up the bump to get the depth. Closeups show it much better than the distance shot. I haven't used Displacement maps before but as I go deeper I will look into it. Thanks again all for your comments and encouragement! I really do mean that, constructive criticism is center of growth. Boy, do I need alot of growing!
