I guess it depends on where you want to spend your time, or accept the challenge - in your rendering software or in your postworking software. To me I'd rather avoid postwork as much as possible (I'm a lazy bastard - so more automated reproducable stuff I can just drop into the rendering software always appeals to me) so it's always nice to see what can be accomplished without it.
