Subject: New to Poser - First Poser Scene

In general, use the dials (on the parameter palette) to move things around and not the mouse. Using the mouse is a sure way to turn people into pretzels L To make it appear under the hand you must move (translate) it to the correct position, if it's over the hand and you want it under, use the Y-trans to lower it. Also be sure it is actually aligned with the hand, a quick look thru the Top camera will tell you if it's at the proper position (click the workspace somewhere to make it active, then click ctrl-T to select top camera, when that's done, use Ctrl-M to get back to the main camera). Don't be afraid to ask more questions. The manual is not exactely well-written and is faulty at some places (like the double click thing)
