The ammo pouches and pocket are more for looks than anything. This isn't meant to be body armor but rather an outer shell covering the kevlar body armor. Most of the vests hold at least 2 30 round 9mm clips for weapons such as the MP5 or a similar load for the .45 caliber variety weapons such as the UMP. They also usually have slots for flashbang or frag grenades and one pocket for a sidearm clip. The picture I based this off of was setup like this and many others follow this same basic recipe. I did not include the grenade bands simply because I could not get them to look right.
