Unlike the cover contest, there are only three judges, who vary from writing contest to writing contest. This time, the judges were author and teacher Kenyon Charboneaux, and two winners of the last contast (midreal and hauksdottir). DeeMarie, who is an experienced editor, becomes a judge only in the event of a tie.
I do not participate as a judge either in this or the cover contest.
The voting system is as follows:
The judges vote independently. They give 3 points to the poem and the short story they feel is the best, 2 points to their second choice, and 1 point to their third. This is the same system that is used for the cover contest and many of the challenges. The person with the most points wins. Sometimes there is a clear winner. Most often it is very, very close.
The judges are not allowed to enter the contest.
Let me know if you have any other questions.

Ah, thanks for the info. I may already be aware of it and seem incredibly stupid for asking this, but what and where is the cover contest? I've just started my part of the Echoes In The Dark story, I'm doing more writing than I was before I started writing here recently so everything is a great help!

The front page of Renderosity is a great place to check for contests and challenges, by the way. :)Attached Link: http://www.renderosity.com/contest.ez
At the top of the page, directly under the banner ads, there is a link for "Contests." This link will list all the currently running contests and is often easier to view than Rosity's Front Page.Attached Link: http://www.renderosity.com/messages.ez?ForumID=12372&Form.ShowMessage=1776694
Check out the Challenge Forum. People from different forums create graphics on a single theme. I find that pretty interesting.
