When a certain member was asking for the real numbers at renderosity, although they went about it in a decidedly hostile manner, they do have a point. Those who are banned or leave are NOT deleted from the database, thus falsely inflating actual user numbers. Not a good thing to do (misrepresent a product) when trying to sell the aforementioned product.
