the stalls would be dirt with straw or wood shavings bedding - a mare with a foal would get straw; horses shouldn't be housed on concrete or brick or asphalt etc., very bad for legs/feet (like seriously bad)

the aisles would be either dirt, concrete or brick - all the large barns I've ever seen were any of the above -
