Chances are you have an older computer if you are still running Windows 98. Too often the older computers are not able to handle Windows XP. You may want to evaluate your computer to be sure you're able to handle Windows XP. For your convenience, I've provided a link to the Microsoft site where you can evaluate your computer. If you're up to Windows XP, my advice is to backup any important data, then wipe your hard drive(s). Install Windows XP from scratch. Use NTFS from the beginning. You're always better off installing a new operating system from scratch because you won't carry along all the crud from the previous installation.
