1st: great image. It stands as it is. 2nd: just as an idea, the clutter on the desk seems a little too disconnected. If there's a flat place (eg a bit of paper), people tend to put things on it (just for the time being, you understand, although 3 weeks later it's still there). Mind you, one thing I WOULDN'T put on a pile of paper is a candle! OK, you've got a glass of wine(?); a wine bottle? and some pens; an ink-well? Also, perhaps you could try clearing the area in front of the chair (the "working area"), move the dross to each side, and just have a "document being worked on" there as the centre of interest?
