Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 29 7:57 am)
Definitely a very nice figure - I also highly recommend Seth and Daniel at Poser Pros for a fraction of the cost and you can make most clithing fit them. Clothing for David is gonna cost a LOT. At least Dodger has shown us that you can make unique characters from the Unimesh and they DON't all have to have a complete new wardrobe.
I'm still on the fence, and probably won't decide until Daz' sale ends. As usual, it comes down to money, and how much I'm willing to spend over, say, the next 3 months on a new character's clothes and accessories. (or spend time trying to convert current m2 and m3 products to D3). D3 does look better than M3, I'll admit that..
AFAIK the Puck update is basically to un-do some cripples that DAZ made him put into the original and to "de-DAZ-ify" it. It makes the figure easier to develop clothing for and easier to update, but adds no real features to the figure and it's not an essential "fix" for anything. You probably don't need it unless you want to make your own clothing for Puck, then it might be worth the few bucks he is asking for the update. I don't think Dodger is the culprit here. His new Aeon figures are perfect examples of what DAZ could do with the Unimesh if they wanted to, but then you wouldn't need to buy all that extra figure-specific stuff and they would not be able to take your money for selling you the same thing over and over again with a slightly different package.
I'm very impressed and it doesn't hurt that with the sale, PC discounts, and voucher the David Bundle was only $43! ;)

I only had the Mil Girls til today. I'm still at work but I can't wait to get home and play with David and Stephanie who I downloaded today. I'm excited about these figures. I have been looking at Vicky and Mike for a long time now and wondering if I should or shouldn't. Finally made that decision today. I don't really want V3 or M3 for that matter but I just love David and Stephanie. Kristta

I bought David and agree that he is a huge improvement on M3, and in many ways even on M2. I will add, though that I have been having crashes and I don't know yet if that has to do with David or my computer set up, or if Poser 4 can just "get old." Like I put a Russel texture on David and loaded up three Davids to compare different poses. The third one always loses its morphs in the sense that it starts out at the default body and the morph dials won't work. Sometimes too when experimenting with such projects (I have been mostly experimenting with my new David) the computer (only a few months old) just stops or does strange things and I have to shut it down and reload. I don't think the David or Russel files are unusually large so far as I can tell (I am not expert at these things). So I think it might well be my new computer. Let me add that I have had other problems getting going with David, perhaps steming largely from my own ignorance, and you might want to look that over just in case there is more to the story http://www.renderosity.com/messages.ez?Form.ShowMessage=1806911 But anyway, I think David is a great advance and I am betting right now that the problems that I have had and still find frustrating are not in the model itself.I have him. No, not illegally, I'm a Daz broker and doing a clothing set for him. And no, it's not a fetish set, although it is fun (in a different way). I think he's the best thing Daz has ever done. His base figure is a tad undernourished, but the morph sets with him are amazing. With little or no tweaking he can take all the V3 and SP morphs, although not the M3, Freak, or Puck morphs. Side note: Dodger and I are working on a morph convertor program that will take any injection pose and convert it to any other Unimesh figure. I've moved Superhero, Barbarian, Definition, and Bulk to my M3 class figures and it's stoopendous! ronstuff is dead on about Puck. Daz has certain rules on how a figure has to work, and Dodger came up with a few twists that Daz wasn't willing to support. Not really either one's fault, just a difference of opinion. When Daz decided to let Puck go, Dodger moved it to PoserPro's and added back the things he'd taken out for Daz standards.
I see... When a DAZ product changes, usually the updates-- unless its a total upgrade-- are free to the purchaser. That's why I was a bit miffed about Puck. Since the new version isn't something I'll need then I'll probably not invest. I was concerned that there were changes to the original such as morphs and joint parameters that weren't made as updates for those of us who bought Puck from DAZ.

PJBear - it sounds like cross-talk, when the first figure "controls" the settings of identically named dials in the later figures. To deal with it you need a null figure: Rob Whizant has one at www.rbtwhiz.com. Injection is, in any event, not set up to work on anything other than the first figure (but you can inject and save the figure, then reload it at any point as long as cross-talk is blocked).David looks okay thin. M3 looks too much like Rubber Man thin, and I find it a challenge to render him at an angle were he does not look so "bumpy" and a little warped here and there. But it can be done.I only got M3 out of curiosity when he was cheap and because there was a lot in the Platinum Club for him cheap. But most often I go back to M2. David may eventually make M2 obsolete for me as I use the two together and compare them more. I need to get a better grip on this cross talk business etc, that I mentioned above. I would like to congratulate DAZ on making an apparently improved product this time with David. They are recovering their reputation for being able to provide progress and keep up with the competition so far a I am concerned.

I bought him from DAZ and I have to say I'm pretty impressed so far. There are a few morphs that I would have liked to have in the morph pack that aren't there (flat face/ forehead). I definitely like the chiseled morph and the character morphs though :)
