I'm looking for a tunic piece of clothing much like the ones shown on Zygote. Does anyone know where I could find one or does anyone feel like teaching me how to MAKE one?

Mehndi ( ) posted Sat, 14 October 2000 at 5:25 PM

Why not just purchase the one Zygote has? It is a good value. I like it alot.

Anastasia ( ) posted Sat, 14 October 2000 at 9:44 PM

Cause I'm extremely poor ;)

Hi Anastasia, There are several tutorials out there how to make clothing. But none of them is truly complete in the arduous business of making clothing. There is a lot of trial and error in figuring out how to make a clothing model and then turn it into a piece of conforming clothing. My first real piece took me months to do as I learned the process. If you are determined and stick with it, you can make clothing too. Look under tutorials to start. My advice would be to start saving up those pennies. :) Good luck.

what 3d apps do you have...Steve

How much detail do you want. Should it be hooded or not. Is a smart prop good enough or do you need conforming. Would you be willing to wait a month or two for one to be created as a free prop?

Anastasia ( ) posted Tue, 17 October 2000 at 9:30 PM

I'm always willing to wait. I just downloaded a trial version of Paintshop Pro, I have a trial for TrueSpace, a Trial for Bryce, and a trial for Rhino and something else. I just downloaded them yesterday so I can try some of these tutorials. If any of you have seen Cin-'s "By Firelight" picture in the gallery, that's the type of tunic I want. And following what he did, I'm getting close to recreating it, but now if I could just make it one piece of clothing that would be great. If someone wants to make it and make it a free prop or clothing, feel free, otherwise eventually I'll learn to make one and I"ll make it a free one. I'm all for free stuff. I'm using it to make a female elven warrior (shhhhh don't tell the elf haters) that I hope to post for everyone to download. But I'll probably find/make one for a male too. Any help is much appreciated. Thanks!

Wynter ( ) posted Tue, 17 October 2000 at 11:43 PM

Heh, heh. There are probably more elf lovers than haters here. Please note, I was not trying to discourage you. Just wanted to let you know what you were getting into. The more clothiers around here the better! :) I'm sure anyone of us will be happy to help you along with tips and ideas. We were all helped once too. If you have or get a demo of Cinema 4D. Steve Shanks has a good tutorial which I believe is at his site. Am I right, Steve? I use Cinema 4D and RayDream. I'm on a Mac and my choices are somewhat more limited. Anyhow, happy modeling.

Anastasia ( ) posted Wed, 18 October 2000 at 8:17 PM

Cinema 4d, I'll have to hunt out a demo for that. Yes, I've noticed that people are extremely helpful. I'm very grateful. Someday I hope to be good enough to help others and provide back to the 3D world. ;) I really want to get RayDream Studio, perhaps that'll be a christmas present ;) Anyhow, so for now, I'm gonna see what I can get out of the tutorials. See if I can find something that will teach me how to make texture maps.

Marque ( ) posted Wed, 18 October 2000 at 8:32 PM

Anastasia, There are lots of helpful people here and you will learn a lot. I am just now learning Cinema 4D it's very expensive but they also have a lower end version. I am trying to learn how to make clothes as well, and texture mapping. I have discovered a few tricks to the mapping though that I would be glad to share. The others are right, check out all the tutorials and just jump in. I have a Photoshop LE CD that I got with one of my hard drives. If you email me I will send it to you and you can register it. It is not a totally crippled copy, just doesn't have all the features. It sells at the stores for $99. I don't need it and since I got it free I don't mind passing it on to you. 8^) The good thing is that you can upgrade later on a little cheaper by registering it. Don't worry about postage, it can't cost very much to send one CD. Marque acbts@cwo.com

All these programs are very expensive ;) Uhmmmm nope I have Photoshop 7 actually. My brother has it and is willing to let me borrow it since i let him borrow Poser. Thanks for the offer though! But if you got any other 3d programs you don't want anymore, tee hee ;)

Marque ( ) posted Wed, 18 October 2000 at 9:24 PM

Hummm, I think you have PSP 7.0, the newest photoshop is 6.0. Well if someone else needs it let me know. Marque

Wynter ( ) posted Wed, 18 October 2000 at 10:37 PM

Anastasia, I have the low end (about $180.00) of C4D. I bought it when Steve told me it would be adequate for my purposes and it has. You know what I really want. Something that will produce a really good UVMap. UVMapper is good, but functionality for the Mac is not what it is for the PC and the maps at the seams tend to blur. Maybe its just me, I don't know. Not complaining, I'm grateful for this good utility. Anastasia, is there a Photoshop 7? I thought they just came out with 6, or at least about to come out. Ooops, just saw your message, Marque. :)

Marque ( ) posted Wed, 18 October 2000 at 10:43 PM

Hey Wynter! You have created clothing in Cinema? I am green with envy, I have SO much to learn! Marque

Anastasia ( ) posted Thu, 19 October 2000 at 8:56 PM

Must be PSP, But I do have Photoshop 5

Marque ( ) posted Thu, 19 October 2000 at 9:15 PM

That is an excellent program to do textures in, actually any program you can do layers with is good. If you put your map in then add a layer and make it about 64% transparent you can see the map and draw in the lines. lol Just be sure to set your transparency back to 100% or you will be in for a surprise. 8^) Marque

Wynter ( ) posted Thu, 19 October 2000 at 9:16 PM

I was there not long ago myself. And I'll tell, trying to learn what I had to learn to make clothing, made my head feel like it was going to explode sometimes. ;)

Marque ( ) posted Thu, 19 October 2000 at 9:26 PM

Care to share with an old woman? 8^)

Wynter ( ) posted Fri, 20 October 2000 at 8:20 AM

From one old woman to the other, you mean? Hmmm...wonder which one is older? I'd always be happy to give advice. But I may do things ass backwards for all I know. Went to see if Steve Shanks C4D clothing tutorial was available at his site. But didn't find it. Must only be on his clothing CD. If you have C4D you might email and ask him if you can have it. He seems like a pretty nice guy. The next link was an invaluble tutorial he did. Anyhow, don't hesitate to write. Hummmm, I have his clothing CD's, I'll have to look! I'm pretty old, of course if Life begins at 40 wouldn't middle age be somewhere around 85? 8^) Heh Marque

rtamesis ( ) posted Fri, 20 October 2000 at 2:35 PM

The latest version of Adobe Photoshop is 6.0. I just got their latest mailing advertising a $199 upgrade from Photoshop 5.0/5.5. I also just received my copy of Cinema 4D XL 6, and I'll be trying to learn that this weekend. Steve, have you comleted your tutorial yet on bringing Poser animations to C4D? I'm really looking forward to reading that. Also, do you have any tips to importing Victoria into C4D without messing up the eyes and eyelash transparencies like what happens with Carrera? Thanks!
