I was wondering how long it would be before someone made that comment. Here's the deal... I don't use Daz products. Not going to happen. Period. My problem with the whole Uni-mesh concept is not a problem with creating multiple characters/products from/for one or two base meshes, but rather the idea that ALL things can be created from such base mesh which is the gist of thier marketing, at least to me. Many people have bought into that concept and that is the customers perogative. Daz has made a lot of money from it, and I congratulate them on a very slick business tactic. It's good business to be able to reuse the same product over and over without changes to it the way they have; it's efficient for them and lot of people have been convinced of the quality in it by the "if the base is good, the other stuff is good too" theory. Once again, a matter of personal preference whether you buy into that or not, but certainly a marketing coup. In comparison, to Daz, We are not reusing the same base mesh over and over. We've had a LOT of requests for add ons for Behemoth. Behemoth has now been downloaded a confirmed minimum of 5000 times from our servers, so producing add ons for him is good business. The lycanthrope is something I've wanted to see avaialable in some for a long time, as are many of the other designs I've brought to market now using Behemoth. Now, to say that he is a "Sixus1 Uni-Mesh" might be almost apllicable from the standpoint that we have a growing number of products based around him, but it's not quite accurate. Mayadoll is a great non-Daz figure, with a growing support base and I don't see anyone calling it the MayaX-Uni-Mesh. To refer to any of our figures as a Uni-mesh is, to me, to imply that we aren't modeling original work any longer and that is so damn far from the truth I could scream. Our store at Sixus1.com has, currently, a stable of 59 items in it, that vast majority of which are either original figures/creatures or products supporting them. Lumping us in with the Uni-mesh concept would cheapen the work that's went into that catalog of original meshes by inferring that they somehow our work is based on one mesh or that it will become so in the future. If i seem a little edgy about what I see this as assuming, well you're right. I may run a business but the business is there to allow me and a very small group of artists an avenue to release what we feel are the kinds of things we would want to see available for ourselves, and to develop and market that content in whatever way we see fit. We enjoy the process of creating. We enjoy building NEW meshes. And if the public happens to latch onto one of our figures the way a growing number of people have with Behemoth, then there's nothing wrong with providing them with more products supporting it and expanding what they can do with it. Behemoth is not the Freak; he's a completely original mesh, with it's own style, not based off anything other than what I thought would be cool for myself and others to use. Not knowing you in person, i don't know the tone your comment was intended for, but if you meant to aggravate the crap out of me, you've just about done it. While Sixus1 Media and Daz are both companies selling products for Poser users right now, I feel that we cater to a very different mindset than that which has given thier Unimesh figures such wide useage. I don't mind that our original figures have a decidedly smaller place in the market. What I do care about, however, is that we have shown that there is a place in the market for alternatives to the "standard", and that the people who have taken the opportunity to explore said alternatives have given us what I see as a resoundly positive response. We provide virtually 24-7 support through our site for all our products, free and commercial alike. We maintain a very open dialogue with our customers on our forums. Sales through our site continue to grow. If you look at the membership number at the bottom of our forum index you might wonder why it hasn't grown in a while: well, we stopped requiring membership for our freebies. So while the number there doesn't increase exponentially (since we decided bribing people to join with free stuff was just not our style) those who do join tend to be more active and interested in thier interaction with us and the other people on the site. I guess what it boils down to, and what has me so riled at your comment, is that we are not Daz. We never will be Daz, and there isn't enough money in this or any other market to make us want to be. They have a very different attitude, angle, business model... whatever you want to call it, than we do, and inferring that we're somehow adopting the same methodology that they have used, and one that I don't really agree with, especially at the level to which they've taken it, really sets my blood boiling. FYI: I guess it's just the "LOL!!!!" and the "(Just way too easy!)" parts of your post that make it seem rather snide and confrontational. Do you have some problem with me personally or something? Because a jab like that is just uncalled for given that you were active on our forums long enough to know how much it would piss me off. -Les
