Penguinisto, There are a few cases where the maker of an item specifically, in writing, allows redistribution. That is part of copyright law... the control of redistribution. We have a handful of people who allow blanket redistribution because they have lost their webhosts or will be gone for a while. In that case, there is a list (I believe it is in the Backroom) which can be referenced when someone asks. If you wish to be added to this list we will do so. Most people simply have a line in their readmes for each item saying whether it is ok to pass it on or not (which makes checking for permission really quick). The problem with P2P stuff is manifold. Authorship gets lost or stolen. People sharing items may forget what they got for free and what they paid for in their generosity to share what isn't theirs. Information about popularity of items never makes it back to the person who created it... which is especially bad if someone intends to sell similar stuff. P2P sharing is absolutely uncontrolled... and a far bigger problem that one member asking another where "such&such" can be found. Carolly Poser Coordinator
