Subject: The Order of Things - or - How to dress a morphed figure

I have been working with P5 for a while, but I still have a lot of problems adjusting clothes to morphed figures.

Let's say I have V3 and want her to aquire MissApril's (by Morris) morph and want her dressed with DAz's bikini. What is the order to follow:

  1. Load V3, load BikiniTop and BikiniBottom and conform to V3, load Miss April's morph INJ?

  2. Load V3, inject Miss April, load Bikini Top and Botoom

or

Your opinion might help a lot of newbies and not so newbies as I am.

Load V3, load BikiniTop and BikiniBottom and conform to V3, load Miss April's morph INJ on V3, and then adjust the morphs of the clothing to fit the body. P5 fixed the crosstalk issue which was hacked into the "magic" clothing for P4. (in other words, they used a bug to make something cool. Now the bug is fixed. The cool thing don't work.) This is the problem with hacks. On the otherhand, clothing can be made to work in a similar way still for P5 -- PhilC has instructions for doing so righ ton his site...

At least Mikie still puts his pants on 'one leg at a time' like the rest of us (at least he don't have this darn tail to deal with!) I'm still finding a crosstalk issue in P5 when loading more then 3 V3's in the same scene and trying to apply MOR style poses to them...haven't tried that many with clothes yet however.

That's due to the hacks that are built into V3 and the way that poser loads multiples of figures.

ynsaen --- The last part of the process, i.e. adjusting the morphs of the clothing to fit the body has always been a bit of a hit-and-miss exercise to me. For example, some conforming clothing figures don't have many (if any) built in morph dials. In that case what is the best thing to do ? I even have difficulties with morphing clothes, e.g. D3's clothing bundle - if I apply a muscular morph to the David figure, add some clothes from the bundle and wind up related dials on the clothing item, there are still parts of the body poking through (....and I'm not talking about the rude bits either). Any tips and tricks for a better approach to fitting clothes ? thanks, Andrew

Well, generally I'm going to bow to the old stand-by's of Morph Manager (excellent, easy to use utility that' has the best price) and those things I despise called magnets. A great many clothing objects do not have morphs built into them. The creators in general have several reasons for it, but it pretty much boils down to bang for the buck -- folks won't pay 30 bucks for a shirt that can do more than Mike can, lol. Morph manager in general will let you take the morphs from a figure and apply them to the clothing that is intended for that figure. When using 3rd gen folks like David, you have to save the naked figure once it's set up the way you want it with the morphs into the library to create a CR2. Then use that in Morph manager. The other one I'm none too good at myself, and that's the usual way that folks do it, it seems: magnets. For me, it's because I keep focusing on the "magnet" shape, which is almost useless, and not the spheres, which is where you get your effects from. use your dials, as well -- you'll not be tweaking with magnets much by hand. Beyond that, I'll say do yourself a huge favor and go to the top of the screen, click on the tutorials link beneath the banner, and then seek out the Off Site tutorials --- there is sooo much awesome stuff out there it'll blow your mind...

Thanks for the advice, ynsaen. Also thanks for the tip-off about the off-site tutorials - I have been coming into Renderosity every day for I don't know how long, but I have never noticed this :)

Ynsaen, I think you mean Tailor :) Morph Manager is a free utility by Mason that transfers morphs from a cr2 to another which share the SAME geometry. So you can make custom morphs and distribute them on a stripped cr2 and then I can apply them to one of my characters via Morph Manager. And you can do lots of other things on MM as well if you rename the .cr2 to a .pz2 but I'm drifting OT! With Tailor you can recreate similar morphs on clothing designed for a specific figure. But there are some clothes that will not import into Tailor unfortunately so it's always good to be handy with the magnets as well. What really helped me get a hang on magnets were Traveler's tutorials at RDNA, Morphing with Magnets.

Magnets are great once you get the hang of them, but still require a lot of fiddling. And you may need three or four to get a good fit. If only selecting the correct item in Poser were not so tedious!

With V3 / M3 morphing clothing you should take advantage of the crosstalk issue - I know I do! If you first load V3, then apply the morph and only THEN load the clothing item, the clothing item will automatically adjust to the morphs. It's brilliant. Crosstalk sucks gigantic donkey balls at times, but when it comes to putting clothes on a morphed V3, it's a blessing :)

Eowyn -- sadly, it doesn't work that way in P5 :S That was my absolute favorite thing about ERC, lol. PhilC found a way to make it work in P5, though (he's just too cool, ain't he?)
