They may be mapped the same but it would seem to me that there would be an issue of scale and body hair when using the adult skins on kids or kids skin on adults.

And makeup. Lipstick and plucked eyebrows look very unnatural on a child.

IME, the MAT files work fine across characters. P4/PP/P5 is often a problem, but using a Vicky MAT on a MilKid works fine.
