If you are making a completely new figure then you will need to make it in a 3d app like 3dsmax. Making a figure is a complex subject and would be very difficult to explain everything here. Search for poser 5 tutorials on the internet, you will find some. Stewer has a lot of good information about poser 5 at his site at the link.
